Lower Ball Joint Campaign

Lower Ball Joint Campaign STILL ACTIVE

I talked to the Davis CA Toyota Dealer about lower ball joint replacement (I personally know a friend there). According to him, Toyota still honor the lower ball joint recall.

I checked it with my local dealer here in Shreveport Toyota and he too said the same thing. However, when they ran my VIN, he said it is 97 and the lower ball joint will not fail in these year trucks (you can call local dealer and give the VIN). Is this is true?

For those who still waiting for the repair, I think it is best time to go talk to a dealer now.

I have an 01 that I bought this year mid summer. Brought it to a local dealer and they replaced them with no questions asked and no cost to me.

I remember in the last couple of weeks reading in a thread about the LBJ recall only being for 01-02 models.

Correct. It's only on 01-02 models and is also VIN specific. I asked about a good faith replacement because all years have failed and they said to contact Toyota directly.

i have a 97 also and just recently did my lower and uppers the lowers were so bad that they were about to fall out of the sockets and the only tension left in them was from what was left of the rubber boot. The uppers were trashed as well tie rod ends could have been better but no where near as bad as the ball joints. Don't believe them they will go bad and possibly fail

The dealerships will always award those that fall under the recall but have not taken advantage of it. I don't agree that they said that no others will fail b/c obviously we all have seen that's not true. It's safe to say no matter what year 3rd gen you own it's good to include replacing them when doing your scheduled maintenance.
