Lower Link Mount Reinforcement

I know some of you have seen on my thread about how I squished my frame mount for my lower link on the passenger side -

This is pretty common if you wheel your rig. In fact, I was hoping to use the passenger side mount as a template and during this process I found out that side is tweaked too.

I went back and forth on designing my own frame mount versus welding on a new stock mount and reinforcing it and had landed on welding on a stock mount and reinforcing. This keeps the stock geometry and I already have links (thanks [MENTION=118730]AssBurns[/MENTION]) running as a 3 link so I didn't want to change out links (lengthen-shorten-whatever).

Thankfully someone has come out with a reinforcement so that I don't have to build one -

Link to info - Lower Link Mount Reinforcement. Added bonus is I thought I was going to have to weld on a new mount which means dropping the fuel tank, never thought of using the reinforcement to bend mine back in to shape. Hopefully can slap these on without dropping the fuel tank.

I was thinking about this. I like this!! Now, how much weld though ? Because if it’s all around then you’d have to drop the gas tank. Or do you just weld it up to the frame ?

So you have to drop the gas tank in order to get to it.

I suspect so - although [MENTION=118730]AssBurns[/MENTION] and [MENTION=143526]theesotericone[/MENTION] are going to find out for certain this weekend...

- of course, if you don't reinforce that mount and end up bending it wheeling, you'll be dropping the tank to fix it, so pick your poison.

to install:

1. remove your link bolt,
2. pull the link out,
3. slide the LLS onto the mount and align the bolt hole,
4. reinstall bolt and swing the LLS up until it contacts the frame (you may need to trim the angled wings or splay them out slightly to get a tight fit to frame at top, depending on your truck),
5. and weld away.

Well let’s not forget to add a important step where you’ll probably need to drop the gas tank to get full weld on that side. However, it’s not a big deal. And I like this. Keeping a eye on this. Probably end up getting a pair also. Great job by the way.

Also, as a step..

You would think you wouldn't have to say this but you never know..

REMOVE the link completely before welding. Heat transfer would not play fair on rubber/poly bushings.
