I am in an airport at the moment but will check out the slideshow when I get home tomorrow and have some time.
I wouldn't touch the bearings, but with all the equipment you seem to have at your disposal, it wouldn't be too bad of a job.
I know that some members have had looseness in the steering wheel and have applied a tack weld to the column. I haven't read too much of this problem. You may have bad bushings for the steering rack causing it to move from side to side.

Ah alright. I haven't done to many alignments so I am not an expert on that. From what you said I shouldn't worry about it. One was in the green at +2.38 (Right) and the other was in the red but only at +2.67 (Left).

I looked at the steering rack bushings when I was under it today and they are fine. I will just leave the wheel bearings alone then until they cause a problem. I guess I can always get to it later if needed. The press in the shop is buried anyway since it's not a tool we need very much.

^ College kids don't have those kind of funds for an LS7.......but one day. Nice car though. I love that hood shock setup. Is that an aftermarket thing cause I really want something similar on the Z.

I have a problem with the steering and I can't figure out the issue. It's done it since I've had it and having it on the alignment rack today I have no idea what the problem is. It seems like I can hold the wheel tight and somehow the rack and pinion will slightly move back and forth when driving (at least what I think it is). Like a tapping but the truck doesn't drift left or right. I saw something a while ago that said a part wears out in the rack and that's the cause. There was a write up on how to fix it but can't find it...

Anyway, besides that link, yukonrider listed all the parts and Toyota part numbers you will need to fix your rack and pinion...if this is your problem! Sure sounds like it though...

Pretty excited since I received this today. It's been 10 months since I've had the hood and there was no way I was going to buy this from the dealer. Ended up finding a 4runner with this hood on a picture on ebay looking for a front diff. $50 later and a few days and the whole assembly is at my house. I think I did pretty good...

I can try to get some photos. Do not have a write up on it. He purchased a fuel management system that was plug and play. Its running a factory toyota supra fuel pump. Shortened the driveshaft and running toyota tranny. Cut and made all mounts. It was a very timely process.

Alright it's been a while since anything as been said on this but I do still have all the parts and will be starting to work on it soon. (Finally college is over)
I plan on replacing ball joints on my front spindles with new MOOG replacements on upper and lower. I am don't know if I should go ahead and replace the wheels bearings or not. Spindles came off a 4runner with 180k. I am leaning towards replacement just to be safe even though they spin freely. Any opinions?
Also what is the best CV axles? I have 3 inch toytec lift and will be using a diff drop. I'd like to have quality parts since this will also be a DD. Has anyone dropped the diff lower than the kit? Pretty sure it's not possible with trans in the way so probably not.
It seems by BIGGEST issue is going to be oil pan/differential/trans bellhousing clearance. I am searching for a totaled 4runner to swap everything in and have it all setup before I touch mine.
Will keep this updated as progress slowly moves forwards.

If you google "4Runner lower ball joint failure" real quick, you can find out why 50,000 people are about to tell you not to put anything but OEM ball joints on the truck.

BTW I am watching this too. Looks like it will be quite the project. There was a 1uz swap just completed a couple days ago so this should be even more interesting.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I had just replaced my ball joints in my 300zx with Moog and they are suppose to be the best you can get. (Nissan claims they were not replacable so they don't make any).

Where is the best place to get these ball joints online OEM upper and lower? Also should I go with Napa CV axles sinces they're lifetime replacement?

The Sankei 555 are good parts. I believe they made the OEM part iirc.

Yes, the Sankei 555 are the oem and at $57 for lowers and $18 for uppers a piece I'll be going with them. After I googled the ball joint failure I realized I have seen a ton of 4runner pictutes with broken ball joints before but never knew the cause. OEM is it!
