Ls1 conversion in my '85 tr4 .....anybody else ?

Ok I found me a solid '85 SR5 with a bad MTR.......My shop specializes in LS Conversions ....Mainly in Muscle Cars but will work for food .
Has anybody done this swap ? what are the Trouble Spots ? Will the Stock Front & Rear Axles hold up ?
This is goin to be my DD , Huntin , Fishin Rig , Maybe my tow Rig. I will Spray the sides from the UGLY GOLD dwn with a Tinted Bedliner , Bumpers Frnt & Rear, Winch & Drive the ......out of it.
So Swap to a V8 All Aluminum Ls1 Auto or Rebuild the 22R ?

I know the 5.3 vortec has been done, so depending on how much bigger this is, it should be able to be done. I don't know of any adapters to keep your 5spd, but I have never looked either. If your shop is able to do this swap, then they are able to do the 1UZ swap, with is way cooler since it is still toyota

So you are asking if the drivetrain from a stock 85 in which the HP was about 100hp from the block will hold up against a most likely modified LS1 that will be over 300hp???

Axles will be "JUST" fine. :thumb:

As long as its a smallblock, all the dimensions should be the same (4.8/5.3/5.7/6.0). I'd go for it. Hard to beat the reliability of a sbc. Add on the nearly unlimited performance aftermarket, the sheer volume of these engines on the road (parts everywhere and cheap) and it's hard to think of a downside. I would aslo expect relatively good gas mileage. I used to help throw a field party years back, and the owner of the property had an '86 Toyota pickup with a carb'd sbc. Talk about fun!!

nice find. cant wait to do a motor swap on mine. i went the rebuildt 22re rout but plan on selling it to do a swap. you will have to address the axles exp if towing, but nothings hard on our rigs!

My friend, last year, completed a 6.0l LQ9 swap in his FJ62 LandCruiser, and runs the factory axles with no issues. Puts 300+ at the wheel. I'll be putting 300+ at the wheel of my supercharged 1uz with the factory V6 rear axles. We shall see how they hold up, if they break, you can always upgrade.

Sorry I CANNOT Take the Gold ,It will be Bedliner tinted a Greenish Camo/Brown from the top of the Gold dwn.
I will be Runnin a 4L60/Manual Lever Transfer case Behind a '99 Z-28 LS1 with just a Baby Cam ....All else will be stock.My '72 SS Camaro is my NASTY GIRL ......460RWH/430RWTQ.....LS1 M6 Head & Cam Setup Low 11's & 25mpg @ 70 mph....

Speedo is mechanical. Below is a little video of a modified toyota pick up with a V8 that was seen time to time roaming around a park local from me. The video was originally taken sometime around 07 or 08.

Just dont be that guy in the video. That guy was an a$$ clown. The poster of the video is even a bigger a$$ clown and cant drive either. He has the same youtube name over on pirate and gets flamed, A LOT. Also the video title is miss leading, he just flops it at the end. Notice that the owner upgraded the axles though....
