LT245/70R17 A/T Big O tires

I recently purchased a set of 245/70R17 Big Foot Big O A/t tires. I don't know much about tires, but I wanted to just give my 2cents about these.
On dry road these tires perform pretty close to stock with the exception of a faint humming sound when the windows are up and stereo off.
I took it into the desert for some mild offroading. Went through some soft sand and some hill climbing. They did not give me a problem. Only problem was when I got back onto the highway I heard rocks being kicked up for about 10miles.

Reason I went with the size and tires was, the places I went to gave me mix answers on weather or not a bigger size would fit on my stock 4Runner. Well it all came down to what this final place(Big O) had instock and what price he could do. I paid $650 installed with 3year no question asked warranty. I could not tell the difference with the width of my stock tire and these. I also can't tell the diff from the ride.

Let me know what you guys think. Did I make a good choice or a bad one?

Just make sure they are all "true" in the roundness department. I had a set of those on my Trooper and they could never get them balanced right. They ended up swapping two of them out about 2 weeks into it and they got a bit better.

I think I just had a defective tire that they didn't replace, but I sold it shortly thereafter. If your set runs smooth then I think they are pretty darn good. Big O service has always been really good to me. They take care of you any time you need a balance or rotation.

I had a set of Big O's on another vehicle and they lasted forever. They were the best tires I've ever had. I think it was because I was diligent about doing the rotations and things, because I knew they would take care of it (and not try to sell me extra crap when I was just there for a rotate and balance).

Those tires look pretty tough! We don't have Big O's here, well the kind that has tires anyways. How tall do those measure out to be? I know how to calculate but that always varies. Stock tires were about 30.5" I think and in spite of the posted size the diameter looks exactly the same or even a hair taller.

I'll bet it's going to be an animal in snow. Looks good!:cheers:

Bambam, I did have to take it back the next day after offroading for rebalancing. It wasn't because of the tire thought. It was one of the lead weights, it flew off sometime during offroading... haha
So far I love BigO's customer service. The one I went too, the people are nice and helpful.


Cj3flyr, I don't know how to calculate the size of them. I'll try to look it up when I get home tonight. Yeah I think Diameter size they are pretty close.

I was talking about walking up to the T4R with a tape measure and seeing how tall the tires are...

What kind of pressures are you running? 38-40psi? I'm not so sure the recommended (by Toyota) pressure is the right answer considering the Load Range E of the new tires.

FYI- 245mm x .70, aspect ratio = 171.5mm
171.5mm/25.4conversion to inches=6.75"= sidewall height
Sidewall height, 6.75 x 2 (top & bottom) = 13.5" + 17" for the rim = overall height of 30.5"

I have them on my 3/4 4x4 suburban I bought the sub new and have been running the Big O's on them for the last 15 years I'm on my 3rd set..they are excellent tires...I have had zero problems. 95% of the milage on it are from driving on and off road in Baja...I have 265-75x16 on it.
