yet ANOTHER question from me (thanks for everyone's help so far, btw).

I see that the LTD bumpers are ALL black (on a black 02 T4R). . . this is what I want... that ALL black look. does this mean that I HAVE to get a LTD? what if I replaced the bumpers with black bumpers? Does anyone know how much this would cost my, roughly and where i'd go to start looking for that? I am also going to replace the hood with a scoop hood.

ALSO, anyone KNOW of a black T4R in great shape being sold? '01 or 02. LTD would be best, bud SR5 works just fine too (assuming I can replace the bumpers).

thanks!

Never paid attention to the difference between SR5 and Limited bumpers, but my '02 Sport Edition is all black. Only thing not black are the badges.

if you can remove them, sand them, and prime them to a paint-shops spec..they can paint and clear coat it for you for not TOO much..

The problem you will run into is that your current paint will be a different color since the paint has faded since it was orgiinally painted on the body..

Best bet, see if you can get them powdercoated black, its a much more durable finish..

I don't think powder coating would be ideal for bumpers. Powder coating likes to chip, a lot. A small run in with a shopping cart, or a rock off of the pavement, and I think it would start coming off in patches.

That's just my opinion from personal experience.

you must have a crappy powder coater in your area.

I don't agree with powder coating a bumper because it would just look abnormal... but powder coating is much more durable than paint, hence the reason if you watch shows like American Hot-rod or over-hauling they always send their frames to be powder coated.

It's also the reason you see brush guards powdercoated....but its just way too thick and heavy to do to doors, hoods, etc, of a vehicle.

2002 Ltd. bumpers are not black. I have a '02 Black Ltd. and it is silver on the bottom with black on top. I'm wanting to black all my parts out, but I don't have the funds right now.

Here's my goal for my Ltd. Only thing that will be different is the front and rear bumpers...I'm probably going to go with a front and rear bumper similar to Lee's.

I would think having the bumpers painted would be the cheapest option, you certainly wouldn't need to replace them. As someone else stated Sport models have matching bumpers and grills and such, you would also get the hood scoop, so unless you really need leather or digital climate control perhaps a Sport would be the right choice. And as someone else pointed out many Limiteds are two tone, but the bumpers are still painted, on the SR5 it is chrome, I do think some Limited came all one color, but they may all be two tone, not sure about that.

You can get your SR5 bumpers painted to match. I really hated the chrome look so I had my bumpers color-matched.

I believe Ltd. 4Runners in 2001-2002 have the two tone look. Everything before is a solid color.

Our 99 limited is two tone, but a friend had a 01 limited and it was solid black... he bought it that way used in 02, maybe the guy who had it before him painted it though. I thought it was probably factory, but never took a close look.

Ebelen, do you remember how much it cost ya to paint them? Also, was the whole old school toyota/hilux grille conversion tough? Not sure if the grill on my 97 is a lot different from yours, but I'd like the old T O Y O T A emblem :)

I can't recall how much I paid for the bumpers b/c I had a few things done at the same time (front and rear bumpers, license plate surround, new coat on the side mirrors and the trim of the grill). I paid a decent amount as I had the guy take off the pieces, paint them and put them back on. The cool thing was he did this over the weekend so it doesn't cause any downtime for me.

The grill is a "Satoshi" grill. Some guy in Japan also liked the Toyota emblem and decided to take a 96-98 grill and dremel out the middle. You replace the middle w/ mesh that you can buy at Home Depot and finally put the Toyota emblem on from the old Land Cruisers. I added the Hilux emblem to make it a little different.

i have a solid silver 02 limited, which is pretty good looking in my opinion (not much of a choice since it was a hand me down), but if i could have any color 3rd gen, it'd be the all white limited. thing is sexy.

ebelen1 --

really wish you knew how much you paid or could give an estimate on your painted bumpers. I have a 2000 SR5 and have the chrome bumpers that I would much rather have painted black to give it a sportier look. I assume you went to a body shop to get it done, right?

Here is what mine looks like:

I actually found replacement bumpers for about $280.00 shipped. They are the SR5 w/sports package bumpers...will that fit on my SR5 w/o sports package??
