Lug Nuts/Studs

OK, please help me out here. What's the deal with our studs breaking off when I go to loosen the lug nuts? I've broken 2 before and when I started loosening them yesterday to rotate my tires, I stopped with 1 of them because I could tell it was going to twist and break the stud. The first time, the guy at Firestone told me that it's normal. Is there a fix for this? Does this happen to everyone? BTW, I have a 97 2wd 4R. Thank you.

Sounds like they were over tightened. If you can't gauge how tight to tighten lung nuts, buy a torque wrench and tighten to 85 ft.

If you do a lot of water crossings or boat launches, it would be advisable to use an anti seize on the threads to prevent galling and corrosion.

Other trick is to let them cool a bit before breaking them loose. I've never had an issue with mine either for what its worth.
