Luster of Dark Paint

It has been a rough winter in Colorado, lots of snow and crap on the roads to treat them for snow and ice. I washed the 4runner yesterday and the lower panels don't have the luster they did when I bought the vehicle last November. They appear to have spots on them, possibly some sort of oxidation. Or maybe it is just me as I have not had a black vehicle in a long time..... But the difference between the panel and the metal of the door is pretty obvious. I spent a few minutes with the clay bar, but it didn't do much.

Any thoughts on how to restore the shine? Has anyone else with a dark colored 4runner experienced this problem?

Did you apply a wax after using the clay bar?

I just cleaned mine yesterday and noticed that some of the chrome like plastic badges have yellow spots on them. I think it is a result of the magnesium chloride they put on the roads around Denver. I'm not sure how to fix either of our issues, but I'm thinking that maybe a good wax job before they start with the magnesium chloride would help.

Yes, I did wax after the clay bar, no difference noted. Yes, the mag chloride will destroy chrome, which is why I laugh when I see Nissan Titans driving around with all the chrome on the front of those trucks. But I thought Mag chloride didn't effect painted surfaces, that is why I wonder why my paint looks the way it does. Guess I could look into putting Line-x on the panels....

Posts like this make me really glad that I live in San Diego. The only thing we have to worry about around here are other drivers on a rainy day.
