My neighbor got a newer Mac and what utilites do you guys prefer? A/V or antispyware. He is 84, I like to help him out with any problems. thanks

None, i have 8 macs in my house and none of them have Virus software, because there isnt much in danger out there targeted at Macs. I feel its a waste of money to buy one of those. We have had Mac's for the past 6 years now and will never buy windows again.
 
I have no spyware or antivirus protection on my mac. There is really no need for it. The only program I use as maintenance is disk utility. That allows you to fix permission errors on your hard drive.
 
had mine for 5 years now haven't run any software ever just stay on top of updates luckily our wonderful do it instinctively ;)

Thanks much guys. Now you know why I am building a Windows/Linux machine next. As I get to know his machine, who knows. thanks all.
 
Just make sure the Firewall is turned on and the Mac will do its thing.

Our family is an Apple Mac haven.

I have a powerbook g4, my wife a macbook, I have an iphone and ipod video, she has a nano and a 3GS, my son was even given a macbook an ipod touch and an iphone 3g(not activated) by his grandma... you dont want to know how old he is. you would cry yourself to sleep tonight.

I have iAntivirus on my MacBook Pro, it was free and it hasn't detected a thing in 2 years. Mac's are the best system out there IMHO you just don't have to worry about all that stuff Windows does. I am a network admin and I see all of the crap that is out there for windows. Like someone said on here before viruses are not written for Mac's or if they are Mac's are immune to them. LOL :bravo:

Mac mini (use it as a Apple TV to store movies on. "Around 375 movies").
Mac Book Pro (for on the go).
Mac Pro (work Horse).

Never had any anti-spy software on my mac. MACS RULE! I've used a pc for all my life prior to having a mac and hated it! Always was sending them off to get them cleaned of virus's and whatnot. Once I bought a mac, life was so much better! I will never go back...
 
20+ years of using Macs, never installed any firewall or A/V protection of any kind and never had any problems. Isn't that why people buy macs, so they don't have to bother with all that stuff? When I open up emails on my mac that were known viruses that affected our computers at work, it just says, "Cannot find the application that created this program" and it asks me if I'd like to move it to the trash, haha.

I think Toyota owners are prob gonna be a high percentage of Mac users,

it just makes sense, if you pay more to buy a quality product like a Toyota, then you will prob pay more to buy a quality product from Apple.
