How is the reliability on the new 8speed? I have seen a lot of 8 speed transmissions failing on other brands

Not sure but sure they have been using the eight speed in other products like Lexus etc. plus it is Toyota. It isn't jeep or dodge that will do an hour of testing and slap a sticker on it to sell lol

Agree with everything you say. It is a lot of money, we can afford it, she wants it, the priorities come first. She does not need a vehicle. Her 2012 Expedition Limited is literally like brand new. I just put some new tires on it last weekend. The guys at the tire shop said we still have 50% pad life left on the brakes.
She has not talked about it in a week or so...at a light yesterday and a new gray LC passed in front of us and I pointed it to her and she said she would like a white one, so thoughts are still there, behind the scenes for now.

The Land Cruiser is extremely overpriced. It's a yuppie status symbol here in Colorado and nothing more. You might see one at the mall once in a blue moon, I've never seen one off road in the mountains.
Not for me, the LRs have some of the worst reliability data around here. Look on the internet and 80% of the ones for sale are at the 45-50K mileage mark.
The are one good looking truck though. I talked to my BIL last weekend and his daughter has a 2006 RR Sport, 62K miles and just spend over $5K on the suspension system, serious repairs.
It is Toyota for me only, other than my uncut 77 Bronco...I am not buying the LC as a status symbol, being purchased as a 20 year truck. I am 58 in August, will get far down the road.

Ironically you see a lot of them here in Louisiana, and being born and raised in Louisiana, we are not status conscious, at least not me...I am a firm believer in getting what you pay for and pay for what you are getting...

I see what you are saying, but not in my case!!! I have a good one, 33 years married, we have done well over the years, I was fortunate to have had an outstanding job and career and it has taken care of us financially.

Woman in my condo has a LR. Driven winter only, strictly a grocery getter. Nothing but trouble. She just ditched it for a new Heep. Ha.
My good buddy has a white LC100. It's easily 15 YO. Still looks as new. When he bought it, his wife scoffed at him for buying "a truck"..... "wouldn't be caught dead driving that thing", etc. About 10 years ago, she took it over and she now refers to it as "my truck". He's only allowed to drive it on our fishing trips, and heaven help him if he gets it dirty.

At $85k, it's worth it compared to any POS GM/Ford put out in its price segment. And it will outlast any British equivalent.
Furthermore, $85k for a car that will last 25+ years is a worthwhile expense. We've had two Cruisers and they're in a different league.

Yes, the LC is a fine SUV. And yes I would pick this over the Lexus equivalent anyday. Something about saying Land Cruiser that makes it so Trump like. Oops did I mention the Donald's name?

07, my BIL and I talk weekly about guns, politics and vehicles...he can afford to buy any thing he wants, we discussed vehicles and he likes LCs, his running around truck is a F350 King Ranch, his wife has a 2016 MB S550 and he is looking at a new Suburban top of the line in 4WD and he says this vehicle is approaching $80K. He needs a good 4WD to get to his ranch in Laradeo TX, I told him to look at the LC, like you said, a 20 year vehicle.

In fairness I can't counter your point on reliability, just from the research I've done on reviews it appears to have improved in the last 4-5 years. As for the used car market, you have to think the majority of the people who buy these vehicles are leasing as well. Perhaps playing a factor into the mileage you speak of.
I plan on getting one later because it just hits all the widgets for me. I want to get one with the heavy duty package and 7 passenger seating with entertainment package. Should cover the tow capacity I want and give me some plush luxury to boot! With that heavy duty pacakge the only thing I would probably change is just an aggressive AT, a winch, and throw on a roof rack.
I love Toyota's as well, my wife always asks if I'm going to get another Tundra when it's time for a Truck. I would love to because out of all the trucks I've driven over the years (even beating the crap out of a "company" Raptor) I loved my Tundra. In reality I'd end up with a Powerwagon for the price point, I really wish they would do something with the TRD Pro line for the Tundra instead of just some bells and whistles.
Regardless can't go wrong with the LC, my wife actually perfers the LC over the LR4's. She hates the styling on the LR4s. :drama:
