I've had 4 4-runners and a Range Rover Sport. The 4-runners were amazingly reliable and loved each one, Range Rover was a Royal POS. Nothing I've ever owned compares to my current Land Cruiser. Beats anything I've ever had in every way, except the sporty feel of the Range Rovers on road manners. Is it worth 2 fully loaded 4 runners, no of corse not. BUT until you've driven one through a horrific blizzard with stock tires without a care in the world, don't be so quick to dismiss it because the high price point. And I agree with you as it is expensive but I would ABSOLUTELY buy another one in a second, it's that good. Just my .02.

I was looking very seriously at off-lease 2013 Land Cruisers before I put down my deposit for my 4Rubber TEP. Prices for certified models with under 50k miles were around the mid-$50k range. 2013 was the first year that there were no options. Every vehicle came with everything that was an option in previous years, and then some. Made comparing prices and miles a little more apples to apples.
I was considering the LC over the 4Runner due to the 8100 pound towing capacity vs. the 5000 pound on the 4Runner. We decided we'd save the $15+k for now, and look for a Land Cruiser for the next vehicle.
To get a good feel for the Land Cruiser vs the 4Runner, we visited a nearby dealership that had a couple Land Cruisers in stock. Man, what a wonderful vehicle! Luxurious, but subtle. Beefy, but agile.
One huge design flaw in the 2016 vs the 2013-2015 is the rear entertainment system. On the earlier models, it was a screen that folded down from an overhead console. On the 2016, each front seat has a screen built into the back of the seat. It isn't an option, and it can't be removed. (Well, it can, but there's a gaping hole with wires hanging out.)
Unlike the 4Runner's rear seats, the Land Cruiser has tumble folding rear seats. Fold down the backrest, then flip the whole assembly up into the footwell. When doing so, the hard plastic seat back smacks into the entertainment system screen. I thought it was because the seat was so far back, but I'm 5'8", and when adjusted for my short legs, it still smacks the screen. What an expensive disaster waiting to happen!

We can agree to disagree. I have looked closely at a new LC and while I agree they are loaded and nice, they are also boring and overpriced.
I hear about price point numerous times in this thread. $80K is overpriced and misses the point.
I see three response groups in this thread:
1) Those that own them and want to defend them
2) Those that think they are laughingly over-priced
3) Those who could give a shit about them and aren't wasting their time on the discussion (which is actually where I belong save for speaking my mind they are over-priced)
As you were gentlemen. Go spend $80K on an LC if you think they are worth it.

Forgot option 4 a person that can't afford the lc so they call it overpriced pos and says it isn't worth the price because he is jealous.
I hate to say it but the new 4Runner just can't compare to the lc. Truthfully the new 4Runner can't compare to the old one even. Have a 2007 v8 and out performs the new ones with towing and performance. . Drive the lc and you will see.
I drove both the new 4Runner and lc and actually bought a new lc. Comes in Friday.

I absolutely love the LC 200s!!
That being said, any new car off the lot is always expensive, no matter the car, even a civic. The best value is the 1-2yr used car w/ low miles incl. the LCs.
used 09-10 LC vs brand new 2016 T4r? LC wins hands down, but there are few trade-offs and those things are personal preferences...

Plus, I love the demographics of the folks that buys/lease these car off the lot because they will, mostly likely, never take it offroad. After an year or two, it's still in a pristine condition, depreciated, waiting to be picked-up and made into expedition vehicles.

I would not buy a new one, I mean theyre the most reliable vehicle made, whats the point? Let someone else cover that $30-40k in depreciation.
Make sure to get a 2013+ for the cooled and heated seats, previous years only have heat.

77, I clicked on this post ONLY because I recently let my wife sit in the new LC and she fell in love. I smiled when I read your title because my wife will not stop talking about it.
Even though we are not in a position to assume a debt like this at the moment, I promised here one down the road. FYI, sale tag said $79,999 (it was literally a sale tag hanging in the window) and the plastic protective sheeting had not even been taken off the wheels or body.

Basically you did by your three options. How about they are a great reliable truck that has the same and more features than a mb or Lexus or Tahoe etc for the same or less money and that will outlast all of them with no headaches. That is why I bought one.
