MAFci Sytem, who is interested?

Who would be interested in a MAFci System. MAFci systems are the first intelligent intake for Mass Air FLow sensor equipped cars and trucks. Typical gains on a V6/V8 are around 25 wheel horsepower. We are writing this to figure out if there is interest from the 4-runner crowd. We would like to do the V6 and V8 starting with the V8.

We would also like your input. THings that you dislike about what is out there and things you would like to see.

Hello,

What kind of control would we have with this tuning MAF? I was doing some reading on your website but most of the explanation there is kind of vague.

I guess what I am trying to do is get a more in depth explanation of what your kit offers to our trucks? I think that most of us are technically competent so we should be able to understand!! :D

Yes, I agree. A little more info would be very helpful. I think many of the 4Runner owners in this forum would like to add a little performance boost. Is your kit going to be CARB legal?
 
Anything you offer that actually improves performance would be welcome. I have yet to see any of the current offerings for either air intake or exhaust give significant (if any) performance gains. People say it "feels" like it has more power or they like the way it sounds better, but that's it.

I would think that if any such addition really improved power, the manufacturer would be jumping up and down with dyno results. Yet it seems to be very rare for dyno results to be available at all.

So yes, any power gains coming from something costing less than a supercharger would be welcome, I would think.

Our kit comes with a high flow aFe air filter(reuseable K&N Style), all the associted plumbing, heat shield(if necessary), and MAF customizer. The MAF customizer makes the gains possible.

THe MAF customizer adjusts the Mass Airflow Sensor output voltage to work with the bigger Mass Airflow sensor housing(part of the kit) and optimize the air/fuel ratios. It does this based on a rpm vs. throttle position chart. The chart is 30 cells by 30 cells which allows adjustment on very small intervals. THere will be a tuneable version, which allows you to tune the car but there will be no need unless your runner some kind of crazy engine combination. Every kit will come with a preset basemap so it will be a bolt on and go kit.

SRT relation?

You guys arent related in any way to Swift Racing are you? SRT makes a nice Intake for the IS300 and GS300s, and they gain 18+RWHP! This is about the same deal, high horspower claim, heatshield, AFE filter, and the Piggy.

Well, good luck. Are you guys going to make one for the 1999-2002 V6s?
 
I think that is a lot of people interested in this, but I think that most people have got "wise" to most of the air intake systems out there.

Generally, there is an initial power increase but after the vehicle computer compensates for the added breathing, the power is gone. I think that is what Faeylyn was getting at. I am interested. Give the people here some time though, some of these posts take time to get attention.

Anyway, thanks for the explanation. I wish that I was close cuz I would donate my truck.

Clarification

Just to clear some things up, If this Intake & Black Box combo works like I think theyre trying to get it to, your ECU wont "get used" to the extra air coming in. Basically there is a PiggyBack ECU that you solder onto the main harness of the main engine ECU, and that alters the signal and adds/removes fuel as needed. This is basically an Air/Fuel Controller, except this will come with base maps so its ready to go.

This thing should work GREAT. If they make one for my truck I might get it instead of the AEM Brute Force Intake/A'PEXi S-AFCII Combo which Ill have to get dyno tuned.

If you have any doubts search the IS300 forums for the SRT Intake System with Race-ECU. That focker gains 18+ RWHP, and it has MASSIVE piping.
 
I wasn't doubting his kit. I was just saying that other kits cause the ECU to react that way.

I do think that this kit will be great if they decide to manufacture the kit. We need to get more interest.

I'm fairly local, (northern VA) and am very interested especially now that the supercharger thing isn't looking like it will pan out. Do you have a shop that I can come check out and talk face to face? Maybe see some of your products on similar vehicles? No problem relaying experiences to the board.
 
Hey guys,

We are not affiliated with SRT what so ever. Yes it is similar to the SRT but the ECU/Black box is much more sophisticated. It has special maps that take away the learning ability of the Factory ECU. It also has the upgrade option of being fully tunable with our software if the customer op's for this option. The map is 30x30 for tuning, unlike the SAFC II which only has a 2x2 map. The ECU's of today can learn their way around the SAFC II.

If you guys could say something like "I have a 2004 V8 and am interested", it would make this an easy sell with the boss. Basically we need about 15 people interested in order to make the project a go ahead.

I'm really excited about this project because I have always been a big fan of the 4 runner and now that it has the V8, I think I'm in love. We are not forgetting about the V6. If there is a big interest for the V6 then I'm sure I can get the go ahead for that project as well.

i'm a 2003 v6 owner, and i'm also interested. can you clarify about the gains? you claim a 25HP increase, but what happens after the ecu adjusts to the gains?

THe MAF Customizer references a couple of different maps so that the Factory ECU doesn't get used to the new intake. THis allows you to have 20-25 rwhp at any time after the install. It is hard to explain, does this make sense?

I have a 2004 V8 and am interested in this kit. To be clear though, I'm pretty skeptical. I'm really only interested in more power, not better sound or cooler looking gadgets under the hood. So it would have to perform exactly as advertised and it would have to be advertised to make enough extra power to make it worthwhile.

Also, if TRD ever comes out with a supercharger and if I can swing it, I would probably get that instead.

thanks for clarifying about the gains, but it has to be as advertised for me to buy it. you have to understand that a lot of intake manufacturers make outrageous claims that end up being false.
