Sometimes I second guess getting MGM over the silver... but then I look at my truck and forget I ever doubted.

little day trip yesterday

Looks great.
How did you get those front recovery points?
Looks like a stock skid as well so what are they mounted/secured to?

I have a stock bumper atm with RCI full skid package and the front filler plate and looking for solutions for front recovery points other than a full bumper replacement.

They are the stock recovery points but most dont reccomend using them for recovery. I plan on getting these in the link provided but they sell out pretty damn fast so you have to be quick.

How is a bolted on bracket more secure than a welded attachment point on the frame? I called Apex out on IG asking for input, and they trolled and said no one should use the factory points, that basically anyone who uses them are idiots etc. IMO it’s a gimmick product that isn’t better than the oem points....prove me wrong!

Agreed, on the 4th gen the "tie down points" were just welded on loops that could tear.

On the 5th gen, if you look closely the loops actually go through completely as one piece and are welded on both sides, sticking slightly out the back side. I have had no problem with recovery using the front loops. I use a tree saver attached to both loops with d rings to even out the load. Just make sure the tree saver is long enough that its not causing them to stress inwards when recovering.

And by most people...you mean Apex Overland, because they are trying to sell snake oil to simpletons.

So far I have been fortunate not to have needed recovery. I dont post much but have looked researched here and other forums a bit. Maybe most was the wrong term as it seems it's mostly split from what I've found. I haven't talked to apex directly so no input there but I've spoke to some that have run and used their product for recovery and they've have positive things to say. To each their own.

Got muddy this weekend in Chattanooga. Didn't need to test out my factory tow points. The skinny pedal got me through it all just fine! About 5 other rigs were winched out.

I am on the fence about these Apex tow point things. I feel like the 5th gen tow points are strong enough to hold up to a proper recovery. Let those people spend their money how they want. Us in the know can save some cash.
