Maine vehicle lift laws

Hi all, first post here. I've been reading quite a bit since I've got my first 4Runner a month or so ago.

I'm thinking of lifting my 4 runner when I replace my tires and came across some posts about certain states having laws on lift heights. I'll probably lift 2.5" to 3" but came across this line in the Maine State Vehicle Inspection Manual:

Reject vehicle if the coil springs or spring perches are broken, not securely mounted or are extended by spacers or blocks.

Would you take this to mean spacer lifts are not allowed in Maine? Anyone on this site have experience with a rig with spacer lifts and inspections?

In more digging it says this as well. Sounds like it's OK as long as it's from a manufacturer and is less than 3" and the frame height is no more than 27". There's a lot of conflicting info in there.

Reject vehicle if the front of the vehicle has been altered or modified to raise or lower the front end by the use of blocks, universal spring shackle extensions, or the improper use of air shocks, spacers, or other similar means.

It's all about mudflaps. The rear fender's splashguards can't be more than 8 inches from the ground and must be wide enough, of course, to actually cover the full tread of the tires. However, 1/4-ton or lighter pickups are exempt, unless you've increased the OE bumper height. So, in other words, lift it, and you're stuck following the mudflap rules. Leave your pickup stock, and you can skip the flaps. Also keep in mind that empty or loaded, your truck can't be taller than 13 feet 6 inches.

I wouldn't worry about the 2-3" lift. THere are trucks and SUVs I see every day that are lifted a lot more than that. They don't seem to have a problem getting a sticker. Face it the state has tons of these vehicle and I haven't heard anyone say their vehicle was rejected. Where you from? I'm in southern Maine.

I agree. You will not have trouble getting a sticker. There are no specific limits to the suspension lift. The frame must fall into the guidelines listed on page 25. GVWR 4501-7501 lbs:
27" front 29" back.

mudflaps apply only to tractor / trailers
 
I agree - everything I've read says I'll be OK up to 3 inches. I was looking at 2 or 2.5 so I'm guessing I'll be fine. Not sure when I'll do it due to funds and the warranty dilemma.

I'm in the Portland area, where abouts are you guys?

Were you anywhere near the Rockland Lobster fest on the wednesday that it opened?
Saw a 4Runner headed up RT1 that was 1 car ahead of me for quite a while. Its the first time I've seen one of these with the rear lower lenses lit up and I think it had dark rims like yours. If it was yours I have to say I liked the look.

Yes, that was my truck. The Mrs. had it for the day. She volunteered at the Lobster Festival. Thanks for the compliment!
