Maintenance - 4Runner Approaches 150K

I remember the 1st time I drove it. What a complex and strong vehicle. Now after crossing the N. American and Canadian Continents several times and many other adventures I'm nearing 150K with my friend and companion, the Beast.

I change the synthetic oil every 5-7K. Get the diff fluid changed out on schedule and pretty much follow Toyota maintenance. I fudge on the spark plugs as they are expensive and the engine runs like a seamless top.

Any one do anything to protect your investment?

My 07 SE rolled past 150k this summer. Nothing out of the ordinary. Copper plugs ever 25-30k. All driveline fluids + zerks lubed. Full coolant flush (engine block drain). PS + Brake fluid flush. New serpentine belt. 1 new axle. Oil changed whenever the dummy maintenance light indicates. Lube and inspect the brakes every time the tires are rotated. FJ Trail suspension swap over Xreas.

The only other thing I do due to my OCD is spray Fluid Film in certain spots where ice/snow tend to build up and anywhere else that is susceptible to rust.

The last of the dying Toyota "over built, over engineered" breed. I'd take my rig anywhere without hesitation.

drive like you purchased it new. we cant really avoid things that will break but regularly checking it for areas of failure and replacing it will give you the peace of mind.

flush and replace fluids in PS, tranny, front and rear diff, and brake fluid

put front end up on a lift or jack stands and check for anything loose and check tread wear for any alignment issues indicated by uneven tread wear

im not that familiar with the 4runners but i know my tacoma had bumper brackets and frame mounts under there that would bend really easy, so easy that it must be on purpose to cushion the impact but it can really throw things out of whack with even a soft tap at 10mph, so you might have a permanent crooked bumper unless these brackets and mounts were straightened or replaced first.

crawl under there and compare left side to right side and take a few measurements,
