Maintenance Items - At what mileage? and a few other questions

For the cabin filter I'd say every 6 months. They are cheap and you can find them on Amazon for around $6-8 bucks each. I buy a few at a time to have on hand so I can change them out. Usually I change it right before Spring to get prepped for all of the pollen and dust!

Hey All,

I have a feeling I’ve got a few maintenance items with my T4R that I’ve neglected and would like to address ASAP. It’s a 2013 with 140 000 kms on it. I’ve regularly changed the oil as recommended, every 16k kms with Mobil 1. I’ve also kept up with the Prop Shaft greasing with correct greases at appropriate intervals. Changed the brakes and rotors as well.

In the near future, I would like to address some fluid changes and any other maintenance items. I just want to make sure I’ve covered it all. Here is what I’m looking at, but I can’t find any documentation for the recommendation KM’s to do the fluid changes.

Front Diff - Fluid Change
Rear Diff - Fluid Change
Transfer Case - Fluid Change
Transmission Fluid Change - Is there a filter here? Or just and R&R?
New Engine Air Filter -replaced once before
New Cabin Air Filter - replaced once before

In the near future, maybe:
Engine Coolant @160 000 kms - Do you really think this is necessary?
Spark Plugs @ 192 000 kms - Should I go Denso or the OEM Toyota Plugs listed in the guide?

Thoughts on:
I see a note for PCV Valve Replacement in Pauls Travel Guide.- Really necessary - Required?

Is there anything I’m missing here or that you would recommend?
Best place to get all these fluids in Canada, or am I only dealing with my dealership at full price? I can pick some up in the USA, when I am there from time to time or on Amazon.com. Amazon.ca seems to be expensive.

I’ve got quite a few questions here, but if you have any information you could provide, I would appreciate it. The amount of content and tutorials on here is incredible and so well organized!

I have been unsuccessful so far after asking 2 dealers and scouting forums. Does a 2016 Trail Premium have a LSD? I purchased 2 liters of 75-85 gear oil and 3 Liters of 75-85 gear oil for LSD (because its a thing apparently) and it set me back $330.....yes thats correct. $330 for 5 liters of gear oil. So when I asked for diff oil from dealer because i wanted to change my rear/front diff oil and transfer case they said it all takes same oil. Once they brought out cans (its what they come in not bottles) he asked me if I had an LSD (isnt that their job?) I replied yes I think so. He went to the back and brought a can that was exactly the same as the cans he brought out previously except this one had “for lsd gear and transfer” printed below 75-85. This special gear oil also costs $80/liter. My question is do I need this for a 2016 4runner and did you use diff oil for your 4runner that has additive for LSD transmissions? Do we even need it for 5th gens? Maintenance manual does not specify this.

I do the same but am spending more for Mahle filters. There’s sooooo much pollen and dust here.

Transfer case

Lots of reading on the "proper" transfer case lube and keep coming up with 2014 changed to 75W due to transfer case update by BorgWarner. I have a 2012 limited (full time 4x4) that seems to call for the same 75W transfer case fluid.
A quart and a half mind you... that means in the cans, unless transfer to different container, a loss of 1/2 quart.
Anyone know why the 12 calls for this PRIOR to the 2014 modification?
