Maintenance Light On

Hey guys, the "Maint" light is on, and stays on all the time on my 2004 4Runner V8 Sport. Besides taking it to the dealership to scan it, is there anyway of checking to see what code is causing this?

Mine starts blinking every 4,999 miles it seems.
I have the maintenance done at the dealer and they probably reset it.

Staying on all the time says to me that it hasn't been reset after maintenance or it really does need maintenance.

Probably somebody here knows how to reset it if that's what it needs. I don't think it is a code, that would be a check engine light.

I honostly did a search for "maintenance light" under the entire forum and nothing showed up. Maybe you could find the info, or point me in the right direction.

the search function is not working well for some reason.

1. put key into the 'on' position, press the trip button on the odometer until it displays the actual vehicle mileage

2. turn ignition off

3. press the reset button on the odometer and hold

4. turn key to the on position while holding the odo reset button for 5 seconds

5. the maint light will begin to flash, then turn off... you're done

Fortunately, Toyota puts information for things like resetting the Maintenance Reminder in the Owner's Manual. It's a good read for something with as many bells and whistles as a 4th Gen, highly recommended.

Thank you...this came in very handy today. For the record, I couldn't find this information in my owners manual.
