Making offers to stealerships? Fair Prices?

Am finding a large number of T4R's at smaller dealerships around the mid 6k range, and am wanting to know how much you guys usually come down in price when making an offer. If there is a T4R for around 6k or so with 150,XXX miles, is it out of line to offer 4,500 cash in hand. Don't wanna get laughed out of the dealership with a crazy low offer. Private party is so much cheaper it seems.

go private party, may sound wierd but they know the vehicle better.

Offer the 4500. The worst they can say is no. Have cash in hand and make sure they know that. Ya never know.

I would agree with JohnsD90 that your best bet is with a private party. That is, if you can find what you want locally. As haddix said though, the worst they can say is no. I think if you are going to go to a dealer be informed. Research and get pricing. Walk in there with paperwork in hand, like KBB pricing etc... Deal with the internet/fleet sales not the sharks in the front. Check this link for some info on dealer tricks.

I was told once to never make an offer that didn't embarrass you. Great advice! You never know when they will say yes.

Thanks guys. My plan is to go private party if at all possible. They know their vehicle better as you guys said, and for the most part they seem to have better prices. Now what to do when the guy laughs at your orig offer? lol
