Making your own seat covers

So, my girlfriend and I just bought an 04 4runner and it has dingy cloth seats that could use some upgrading. Since its a shared car that we are going to use for off roading and camping trips. I get control of the exterior and she controls the interior. Which means she wants pink in the seat covers.

Problem is I tried all the sites: clazzio, katzkin, wet okole, coverking, etc and nothing really caught my eye or even had pink as an option.

I was in an upholstery shop today looking for parachute material, that tents are made out of to create magnets screen meshes to keep bugs out for the car windows when we go camping. I noticed all the different materials and foam and thought how could it be to make a custom seat cover with any material and style you want.

I started doing research but I can't seem to find much information on subject, has anyone done anything like this? Or seen any kind of templates to go off of?

I used to have a company that made boat covers and I sewed a lot of them. Seats are in a whole other category to have them look good. To have good results requires a great deal of skill. If you just want a slip cover those can be bought on Amazon and will give satisfactory results. Look at katzkin and go through one of their dealers will cost a little more but you will love the results. They offer their dealers a lot more color choices than are available on their web sight. I had at least 100 different colors to choose from and then equal number of choices for piping and thread colors. They even offer tooled leather now.

Tent material will not work for seat covers. Will not hold up the the rubbing and more importantly it is really uncomfortable to sit or lay on for long periods of time. We tried this material to manufacture hammocks and ended up going with 200 and 400 denier pack cloth ucoated as it was much more comfortable and not noisy. Tent material is very load when it crinkles.
