Sounds like a fuel pressure regulator is leaking. Pull the vacuum hose of the diaphram and look or smell if gas is there. Its the smaller of the hoses. If there is fuel replace it. If not you might have to do a static fuel pressure test. With the engine off connect the fuel gauge then run it for a min and turn it off. the gauge should not drop to zero right away. There is a check valve in the fuel pump to hold pressure at somthing like 5psi in the system, if it doesn't that might be your problem. You can also leave that same vacuum line off while your doing all of this. To see if it is leaking. Your engine will run a little rough but it will be fine.
 
Thanks, finally had all the fuel supply line checked, was o.k.
The problem was the IAC Valve, an unknown part to me.. that
