Malware at Yotatech?

So today, Chrome has started intercepting me when I go to Yotatech saying that the site has malware.

Anyone else get this? Did yotatech get infected with something? It has never given me the warning until this morning.

Malware? Lol, oh yeah I run Ubuntu for my OS.

I browse with FireFox and I did not see any such messages from the yotatech site.

I browse with firefox too. For the past 2 months or so, yotatech has not worked for me. When I try to go to the homepage, the browser just gives me a blank white page with the correct address in the URL. It still works for me on internet explorer, but who uses that?

Edit: after finishing this post, I tried again to access yotatech. Firefox gave me a security warning about the infected site and advised me to close the tab.

it's true

I was virus attacked last nite.

I thought it originated from Facebook but I'm sort of suspecting it could have been YotaTech as well. Not sure how to tell exactly....

I am getting the Mozilla warnings as well and avoiding it. Spent all morning on the phone with Microsoft and their PC Safety number is 1-866-727-2338.

They got me up and running again. Very helpful.

You Apple guys can brag all day about Macs never having these kind of issues but Microsoft has always solved any issue I have ever had.

Boy, I haven't had to call Apple for tech support in... oh... let's see... my life. :) Really though that sucks Ron, glad you got it taken care of. My Mozilla (Mac) is giving me the warnings on YT, but I've been ignoring them. So far so good.

Yeah was wondering what was up with that. I tried with Safari and Firefox but got the same messages too. Mac's supposedly don't get viruses easily but I don't really feel like testing that :lookout:

I've been getting it since yesterday morning, the same thing happened a while back when I tried to access the Expo Portal forum but it has since been fixed.

I don't go on that site, I have enough work here, but has anyone notified the administrator or moderators? If that happened here, I would want to know about it, ASAP. My guess is they know about it, heck I get PM's for all sorts of stuff.

Yeah they are suppose to be working on it

Not really without user consent...

If you'll get infected by just ordinary browsing, thats because "JAVA" is VERY OPEN. You can always disable that add-on when visiting known sites where malwares ride though Java.

And being Java enabled as add-on in the internet explorer or other web browser is more than a consent. The virus walks in through the front door, and windows will do nothing.

Observe that when youre browsing suddenly slows down, and you are suspecting that its downloading something..pay attention to the java applet in the notification area, if you see it disco, immediately from the internet. Clear history areas and go back to the site with java disabled this time.:snacker:

very informative thanks

I'm a black and white kind of guy Borgz-would it simply be safer to kill the Java program-remove it?

Then when we go somewhere and need it-we simply allow it to install again-with the newest and greatest version and updated protection?

I'm guessing it's not that simple, is it? Please don't get all tech on me-I was brought up in the days of the Commodore 64....we were still doing punch cards in college... men still dragged their women home by the hair...

LOL! I worked with this chick a couple years ago who was about 20 at the time and I made a joke about some guy walking by that looked just like Ponch. She was like, huh? You know, Ponch and John? She looked at me like, what are you talking about? She had never heard of CHiPs. I had a Commodore 64 and then an Amiga. How about ColecoVision?

LOL!

A malware can be downloaded and installed in a computer through a program that connects to the internet. Basically, its the Internet Explorer and other web browser programs enable users to connect online. Websites require some add-on programs in browser to display media and effects. Most common browser add-on is flash player, it is required in youtube to play online video. Another example is adobe, you can directly open a .pdf file while in internet explorer because of that add-on.

But this time, the most controversial is Java. Many websites require it. Java claims to be useful in online 3d rendering and even internet banking.
You can read java admits that a malicious software can be downloaded into your computer:Virus found in the Java cache directory
Imagine such an unsecure add-on program running in your Internet explorer. Its why virus download into the java cache in your computer and expands from there.

- Not recomended to uninstall java though, its even pre-installed in newer version of windows. It has lots of uses.
- But its easy to disable an add-on and enable it back incase a website requires it. Just click "Tools" in IE, scroll down to "Manage Add-ons" scroll and make selections, click the name of the add-on(Ex. Java), then click the disable button below. Do it when surfing "for the boys" sites. Enable it back incase you need it. And no need to re-install the program back.
- Update all add-ons(adobe,Java, flash player etc) remember they are not microsoft's responsibility that auto install when you get updates from windows. Browser add-ons are just team mates. They can get vulnerable to pest infections.

I only have average computer knowledge, just wonderin why a virus gets downloaded, when IE will usually warn you about something. From what i've read, browser helpers and add-ons are the transport of these malwares. Before, a virus gets intalled because a pop-up is being setup and appears in an infected site, by clicking yes or no, it will still transfer you to the walware's downloader and install in your computer. But this type of gimmick is easily solved by the browser's default pop-up blocker. So now, virus authors are getting smart...:):)

borgz-thanks that helps.

My most recent virus got in on a "Microsoft Security Essentials" pop up that I had a feeling was not legit but I failed to trust my gut instinct and should have just shut down on immediately. Mass explosions of porn and pharmaceuticals ensued.

b2sun-I see "Jon" got indicted the other day. Luckily I still have my boyish good looks from the 80s (hah!) what the heck happened to those guys-paunchy and craggy looking jeeez. I had no idea you were as elderly as me...:lasercannon:

But I will shut up on the Apple versus PC debate-as I state often-if I knew what I was talking about I would be dangerous.

Yeah, I saw that about Jon, and yes, they look like they got dragged behind a bus nowadays! I'm on the cusp of being an old fart (33). I remember the 80s very well, but not really the 70s. Although I have 2 older sisters and a brother so I got a lot of hand-me-downs from the 70s like their lunch pails (did you younger guys even have metal lunch pails?) and that good 'ol ColecoVision. After that I think it was Atari 2600! I remember I had everything Dukes of Hazzard as a kid too.. I loved that show.
