Manual hubs with automatic transmission? (2nd gen)

Hey guys,

First post on the forums for me :bravo:. Just wondering if someone could tell me if manual locking hubs will work on a automatic transmission? Might be a noob question but I'm still learning before I pick up my 2nd gen 4runner here in Hawaii. I have done some research on hubs and their uses but commonly read about it with manual transmission. I may be picking up a auto 4x4 soon and want to be sure I can run these on the truck. Yes, the hubs wouldn't know or care what transmission was in the vehicle.
BTW, not sure what years you have, but hubs from a solid axle truck (79-85) won't fit an IFS truck (86+).

Thanks for the reply [MENTION=1857]fourwd1[/MENTION], really helps. I guess thinking about it more logically I can answer my own question haha. Yes I understand about those also. I was thinking of trying to find a pair of Aisin's or if I can't find any I'll go with the Warn hubs

Find the Aisins. OEM is almost always the way to go on these trucks. Shipping might hurt if you have to get them from the mainland, but better to cry now than later, right?

The going price online is about $100 for the pair. 86-95 is the ones you want with 26 splines. As for shipping both hubs will easily fit in USPS Medium Flat Rate box for about $11.

That price is not bad in hopes that I can find some used ones, I remember a while back I found a site that sold refurbed/used ones and always had them in stock so got some options on where to get the Aisins

Two places I found, were WABFAB and ToyotaCarPart.com. WABFAB sells fully Rebuilt hubs including repainting the dials for close to $300. TCP sells them for $40 each plus shipping. You may have to rebuild them yourself, but it's pretty easy if you have the right tools.

$300 is craazy.
Get used ones, at the most they need to be cleaned and regreased.
They rarely break, just get gummed up and don't turn.
