I think you should write it off. But take off the rear axle and RR DIFF LOCK switch and all the wiring. I may be coming through Seattle in a month... :eyebrows:

You need to also ask for money to cover a rental car while you get this one repaired. Again, you are the damaged party through no fault of your own. It's the other guy's (or his insurance company's) responsibility to compensate you for all of your losses and damages because of this, not just to replace your vehicle with one of equal or less value. This is a liability case. Don't let them turn it into a collision coverage case. They're not covering your vehicle, they are keeping you from suing their client's butt off.

With an attrition rate of 30% (conservatively), there should be just about half a million out there still. But MILLIONS........?:kiss:

That few eh? I would have guessed millions. I see them EVERYWHERE!!!!!! I guess there is a greater percentage of them here than in other parts of the world but I'd say they are probably the most common vehicle on the road here.

I guess I got a decent deal on mine, $5500 Canadian which is about $4000 US. No e-locker though so add about $1000 for that upgrade. Mine is clean inside but has significant surface rust underneath, but not frame rot. No service records which is a bit of a PITA.

Isn't the install of a elocker a weekend's work and 2-300 in junkyard parts?

Seems like everyone who knows they have one think it's worth 2k premium, but I can't imagine they're actually selling 20 year old 4runners for ~10k.

Finding an elocker around here for $300 isn't likely to happen. If you can get them there for that price....I'd bet you'd find a lot of buyers on this site who wouldn't mind paying you $100-200 for your trouble and have them shipped.

Here's an elocker housing (no third) with axle shafts for $100. I doubt anyone interested will get the seller to ship it....but it might be worth a shot.

I can understand the 3-7k range, but I see people pricing their runners for 8-12 on here.. is it me or do people on here have a heightened perception of vehicle value lol

They don't have realistic expectations about what a used 4Runner is worth to someone who's not emotionally invested in it...and looks at it merely as transportation.

Also, a lot of folks think that they will recoup the cost of their 'mods'. That's a VERY niche market though and what I'd want on a 4Runner (and be willing to pay for from a seller) is much different than what another forum member (aka "aficionado") would want...making it all the more difficult to get the higher selling price. When you start talking serious mods and serious money....you also have to thoughtfully consider who did the work and the quality thereof.

Ultimately, it comes down to things are worth what someone is willing to pay. I know a lot of people around here likely have a very high price tag in mind if they were going to sell....the hard part is finding someone willing to pay it...but that's okay, b/c they don't have to sell until that price point is met.....EXCEPT in cases like this unfortunate one where someone has damaged your property and is fighting to make you whole.
