Map light wired to dome light?

Has any one with a 3rd gen tried tapping into the map light wiring to make it turn on when the doors open?

I know there's a mod for the 4th gen owners but I couldn't find any posts that was asking this same question for the 3rd gens.

I did it to mine. But I got the whole mirror and light setup from what was either a Tacoma or 2nd gen 4runner. I cant remember. But it has a door switch already integrated into it so you just splice the door trigger wire going to your dome light to the door wire on the new mirror/light. I tried doing it with my original mirror/map lights but it kept blowing a fuse.

I'm guessing that the door trigger is a switched ground (I know this is true) and the map light is switched 12V (the guess part). So yeah, that'll pop a fuse when you open any door. You'd have to isolate the map light ground side and give it 12V+ continuous and jigger the switch to go to ground and then attach the door trigger to the switch side. It may not be easy.

I have a 5x5 LED in the dome so the map light would be superfluous for me.
