i don't LOVE my 4Runner's factory Nav, but i don't LOATHE it either. (moreover, i'm actually glad i have the old version with the larger, 7" touchscreen.) after learning the voice command syntax, i find it pretty easy to enter a route and don't find it misdirects me any more than using the navigation on my iPhone (voice prompts thru HU via BT). just be certain you don't have any of the "avoid toll roads, ferries, etc." enabled in its settings so it doesn't send you on any unexpected, whackadoodle side missions$300--Yikes! I also received the dealer email about update. This is my first time for this since we bought a 2016 SR5 in Oct. 2016. Had no idea the updates would be that expensive.
I noticed on this and other nav threads that many don't like the system. We may be in the minority, but we used the nav system this past summer and liked it-- didn't have (or notice) any problems. I expect we will continue to use it.
My question for those with more experience with this system--is it really necessary to update the system every year or what ever time interval the updates are issued? Seems you could skip a few updates and not miss much. Any suggestions for a nav system newbee? Note: we do not have a smart phone but we do have a Tom-Tom GPS.
After reading the posts I checked ebay and found a 2017 update for $13.95 and ordered it. It's for 2010 to 2013 4Runners.
Will find out next week if it's for real.
I think the ONLY thing I use it for is seeing the speed limits of the roads I'm on. Other than that Google Maps and WAZE do everything better in real time.
Same. On top of that, I'll use it for traffic updates and check the weather forecast every once in a while.
How did you use the CD on your 2016? Don't you have a SD card for maps?

Won't work on my 2013. looks like 2010 to 2012 only, then 2014 uses a memory chip. Did you get it to work on a 2013 ??
