Marlin Ultimate Crawler in 2001-2002 Limited.

Steve,
As always, cool.
I have been wanting to add a craw box to my 3rd gen.
You have me itching for it again.
Maybe soon.

By the way, it looks like you are still running one of my gas tank skids.
Still holding up well?

I know you never mention mult-mode, is it possible to run mult-mode with 2.28 case in front. Still want to keep on the fly-4wd. I have front manual hub conversation in front.

It's not like the older trucks. The reduction box and any 4.7 gears have to go in the front. The Tacoma/4Runner case has to go in the rear.

You can do what you are asking but you will have to:

1: Cut gas tank cross member completely out.
2: Re-locate or shorten gas tank.
3: Replace gas tank cross member in further back location.

The 2001-2002 transmission is much longer then 1996-2000 and the all wheel drive t-case is also much longer. I was not interested in moving or dealing with the gas tank. In other builds we have used fuel cells and aftermarket fuel pumps and they did not work all that great. The stock stuff is designed specifically for the engine it is with.

That being said, you have a 1997. None of this applies to you. Only to 2001-2002.

Yes I have an SR5 Tacoma case, same case in an SR5 4Runner, 96-00. Your 97 with push button will fit with a crawler as your transmission is shorter. Your truck is a lot easier.

So doing this in a 99 limited would be a real pain in the ass?????
Since I sold the 01 that was all SAS I'm back to this idea again.

If you use the J shift t/c, it won't be any different than what the OP did. It's the multi-mode that is too long.

1996-2000 Keep Multi Mode

2001-2001 Dump Multi Mode.

I have a customer in Stockton that has a 1998 with Multimode and it all fits.

Hi sschaefer3, I just switched my 1st gen Tacoma to manual hubs and I wanted to use a manual hub jack shaft that I have. But when I pulled off the ADD jack shaft, my front diff had this gear sticking out which is what the sliding collar in the ADD locks onto, so I couldn't slide in the manual hub jack shaft. For now I have a hose clamp locking the ADD shift fork in 4WD. I'm wondering how you got the manual jack shaft to fit. I may have missed something obvious, it was 2AM and I was getting delirious at that point.

That gear thing comes out, you pop it out, it is like the inner end of a CV axle. Then the long single shaft of the manual hub jack shaft goes into the hole the little gear left.

I can't thank you enough for the information! So I was getting tired and delirious. I'm going to try popping it out with two heel bars.
