When I've done mine, I used a grinder to start a cut and tin snips to cut the rest of it.

Kravi, I am glad to hear you are also having some positive experiences with MMO. One thing though, MMO is to be added 2 ounces per ten (10) gallons of fuel. I use 4 ounces (between the marks on the quart bottle) for a full tank of gas as our 3rd gen's only have a 18.5 gallon tank. You might want to think about going from 8 ounces a tank to the recommended 4 ounces and make the bottle of MMO last longer.
I swear by MMO. I have used it in pressure washers, lawnmowers, jetskis, 4wheelers, etc. I don't know what is in it; I just care that it WORKS! There will always be haters and people smarter than me/us but I figure I have about 75K using MMO (exchanging one quart of oil with MMO) and at 269K+, engine purrs like a kitten. I can't contribute it all to MMO but it has NOT HURT using it. With respect to using it in the fuel, it is supposed to lubricate the fuel pump and fuel pump components. I am still on the original fuel pump and injectors at 269K+ miles.......
When I changed the valve cover gaskets - everything was clean as could be. No sludge, just clean metal. (Caveat: I have never had a sludge issue that I know of.....)
(Now we get to wait for the folks to chime in and tell us how dumb/insane/delusional/twisted we are for using MMO.....I am sure Caesar will chime in and rag me about all the things I use on my rig.......HAHAHA)

Thanks Kravvi! MMO is recommended at 4 ounces for every 10 gallons I think...not four ounces for every 5 gallons: ::Marvel Mystery Oil:: (Second question down on the list)
I might do that. But when I originally went to jiffy lube or someplace to change the junk oil that caused the sludge, I forgot to collect the filter from the mechanic.
So the filter I removed yesterday is the one the shop put in after the oil change.
I will cut it and see how it looked. But to be honest, when I drained the oil, there were no more gunk just reddish/black oil which I guess is normal right? Castrol seemed to have done its job very very well!
But I intend to cut the filter open to see what particles are in there...
Then I will cut the filter after I do my next oil change to see what effect MMO had on the oil.

I am sorry! I have a 5 gallon gas tank for my garden stuff and hence yes it should be 2 ounces!! Sorry for the typo and thanks for the correction.

My $.02 FWIW:
When I was spiffed to sell additives: "MMO/Seafoam/Lucas/Whatever is the best additive I've used! I threw a can of (whatever) in my old '83 Mustang and it purred like a kitten after that! Highly recommended."
When I'm not getting spiffed: "Throw some in there if it makes you feel better but if the car runs fine don't bother."
To be fair, Seafoam actually did fix an idle issues I had with that old carbeurated 'Stang. It was dead in a garage for 12 years before I did it, though.

I don't know much about the newer motors but I have used cleaners like MMO and Seafoam in a 22re. I can tell you it did make a difference. If you have ever pulled the upper plenum off a high mileage 22re it can be an eye opener. Now I know this is the fuel system but not the oil. But you can't convince me that if you slowly dissolve that crap away the motor will run better. Same should hold true for the oil. If you slowly dissolve the sludge the motor should have less resistance so smother acceleration. Maybe quicker rpm's in an extreme case.

i use MMO on a rag to clean parts, put it in my oil and gas when i get a new vehicle, clean motorcycle parts with it.
everything i purchased has been in good condition (besides my 86 gmc that i drove out of a field that sat for 5 years) i put new oil in the old 350 and some MMO, and it developed an oil leak from having the thin oil and cleaning everything off.
but yes i like it better then seafoam. Its much cheaper and cleans stuff slower.

back in the day I, as well as other gearheads and old school mechanics would use tranny fluid with the oil or kerosene to clean. when the oil was changed you can see the filth coming out. eventually it would clear up to the point that the oil would drain as clear as it went in, or close to it.
I only use pliers and diagonal cutters to take them apart. I do not want the contamination from a saw or grinder.

Isn't the recommended amount 4 oz/10 Gallons? So mine has a 21.5 Gallon capacity.
Just curious if 2 ounces/10 gallon is something that works better than the recommended 4 oz?

It is mostly napthenic mineral oil, with a bit of Stoddard solvent(paint thinner) added.
I wanted to give an update and my findings in using MMO.
If you read my responses above I said that I tried this oil as a last measure to first remove a lot of gunk in my engine. And I used it for one oil change and for the next oil change I didn't use it. Not sure if it cleaned my engine or not just looking at the draining black oil.
Next, started adding 4 oz/Gal in my gas tank. Mind you at this point in time I am getting 350 miles/tank (21 gallons).
I also changed my engine oil from Castrol to Eneos!
As time went on, my mileage increased from 350 - 380 miles/tank. Not sure if this was the Eneos or MMO in my gas.
Then I stopped using MMO in my gas.
Mileage went from 350 - 405 miles/tank.
I don't use it anymore and the mileage stands at 400 -405 miles/tank.
So in my experience, the MMO seems to go through a bell curve where it does seem to clean your injectors and helps with upper cylinder lubrication. But once it hits its peak it might actually reduce the combustion properties of regular gas. I have read people say elsewhere that they use premium to offset this. Anyways, after hitting its peak stop using it and drive as usual.
Maybe in another 6 - 8 months if the mileage drops, I might add MMO to a couple of tank refills.
But this has been my experience. But this could be just how my vehicle responds to this experiment and could differ for others...
