Max Rear Springs with KDSS

Hi everyone,

I have been researching for months and I finally pulled the plug on buying a Fox coilover suspension set. My last debate at this point is whether I should add a 2" or 3" rear spring. I have a TRD ORP with KDSS. I keep reading mixed information on what the recommended max rear spring size is for KDSS.

I currently have a RTT (stays on) and ladder. It loads up pretty heavy when camping. I plan on eventually getting a spare tire carrier and rear bumper.

Please advise on your experiences. Thanks so much in advance!!

I unfortunately don't think there's a black and white answer to your question. And with your build progressing in stages like most of us do, your rear coil needs may be changing.
If I was forced to give an answer I would say you should run the same amount of lift in the rear as you do in the front. So if you're running 3" in the front do so in the rear. This is probably contrary to what most others would say, which would be to run 3" front and 2" rear so that it will look "level" as opposed to having it raked towards the front.

The upside of level is it looks great and if your rig stays loaded the same all the time this works well. The down side of level is that if you add a bunch of gear, water, food, etc. in the rear of the truck to head out you may end up with reverse rake which looks awful and reduces your departure angle.
If you have an inch of difference front to rear as the rig is stock then you can accommodate more added weight in the rig before your rake becomes reversed.
There are varying opinions about the rear coil being in excess of 2" in height. You should try to understand those before you get 3" lift coils if you go that route. There are also potential solutions to the 3" coil issue that you might want to consider if you go that route.

As far as my experiences go I have 3" Dobinson's coils in the rear that give me about 2.5" lift when unloaded and 2" when loaded. I also run the Sonoran Steel Trac Bar and the Blackgate Customs sway bar drop kit. This setup has worked very well for me
