Maximum water level

I was doing some off-roading and had to cross the small river. It was about 1-1/2" depth. At first point I was wondering how it will go, but then just drive through. Anyway I still have a question. Does anyone know what is the maximal depth of water crossing with standard equipped vehicle (no snorkel and no lift)? I talked to the dealership and was shocked. They said that 4Runner is not a boat and it can't cross rivers at ANY depth. That

the highest official depth you can go in your 4runner is to the middle of the rims, but you can truly go up to the headlights safely, as long as you arent in it for a long time your alt. and starter should be fine, you might want to change your diff fluid after i deep water crossing, but that is really easy to do, before i did the snorkel mod i had the water above my headlights two times, the first time i had to replace the starter and alternator, the second time i approached it better and no damage, a snorkel wont help with electrical malfunctions, but if you waterproof your engine, it will help alot. if you need instructions tell me and i will send you the link!

I'm pretty sure Toyota claims around 700mm for the 4th gen as well but can't find the details.

Here is another picture of the Prado's capability: (4runner and GX twin overseas...thus, specs are very similar)

I work with converting inches to millimeters ALL DAY LONG using CNC Wire forming machinery. I can usually do the conversion in my head (1mm=.03937 inches)

I thought everyone who comes out of a public school is taught that 1 inch=25.4mm .

700mm/25.4mm=27.559inches

.559 inches*16= 9/16"

27 and 9/16 inches

That's quite a bit of water. Would it get into the passenger compartment? Is the 4runner sealed well enough to keep it out?

The GX's max water level is 34 inches.

as long as you maintain forward movement, and have the doors fully closed the 4runner will keep water out even if it is above the bottom of the doors, if you get stuck in said situation, prepare to get your feet wet though

Like said above, be sure to keep moving. I got stuck in a water crossing and had water come in. Water came in and soaked the 4x4 computer (under glove box) and I was stuck in 4 low. This trip made me decide I didn't need a snorkel. You will run into electronic issues before you run into issues with water coming into the intake.
