Maximum wattage of factory fog wiring

OK, I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find an answer. I did find this thread:

but nothing was conclusive out of it. From my understanding, the factory fogs are 55w. I'd like to be able to use the stock wiring and switch for mounting either driving lights or fog lights. The ones I'm looking at are the PIAA 540's. I'd like the fogs, but they are 85w. I'm pretty sure the driving lights will be fine.

I'll take a stab at this...the bulb will be the resistance in the circuit so the higher wattage bulb is gonna draw more current.

55W bulb on a 12 volt system will draw about 2amps...

85W bulb in a 12v system will draw about 2.66 amps.

I don't know what the factory wiring looks like but if the wire gauge large enough and you have the right fuse it shouldn't be an issue.

Personally I'd wire it from scratch to be safe.
