Maxtrax mounting options

So I've scoured the web and on this site, but not a lot of options. I am mounting my Gobi stealth rack tomorrow or Friday and I'm looking for some suggestions on mounting my Maxtrax to the new rack. I really like the mount option that Baja racks makes, but haven't found any mention anywhere if one of their mounts would work with the Gobi. I know I can lay them flat on the base of the rack, but I like the idea of the side mount. Easy to get to when I need them. Don't want to put them inside the truck, most of the time they are gonna be coated in mud. East coast thing. Anyways and help or insight would be appreciated. :fro:

I keep it in the truck but also have their pouch because you are right, mud is an issue. If I were going to put it on the gobi I would do it flat and maybe see if something like the rotopax mounting hardware would work.
 
What is wrong with the locking mounting points Maxxtraxx offers on their website? If you don't want to drill/thread the pins into the rack you can have a bracket made that bolts around the rack like the Baja ones.

All of those points are valid I was just looking at alternatives that I may have not seen. I do like their pins, but I wanted to cover all my bases. Especially with this group, so of the ideas in here are awesome!
 
I have the sling to mount them on the spare tire. Keeps them handy for when you need them, and no worries if they get muddy. I do bring a Trash a roo along on longer trips, so if I had to use the Traxx I would have to unclip it to get to them. iPad always flips picture, so you may want to stand on your head for best viewing!
 
I need to find a way to mount mine in the cargo area. But these may be an option for a vertical setup.

Hey everyone thanks, I wasn't sure if anyone had actually tried the Baja accessories to see if they would work. Itsdchz I appreciate you finding that, I found that as well last night. Kind of bummed that they are in Australia. That was kind of what I was going for. I do like the Mantrax pins, but wasn't to keen on the idea of drilling my new rack. thanks for all the responses.

I haven't tried this but how about bolting a 1/2" piece of marine board from west marine to the rack side using small u-bolts. Then drill holes in the marine board for small ratchet straps.
 
How often are you guys using these? I've never seen them in person being used. For me it might determine how easy they need to be to access. Mostly just curios.

And FWIW, by looking at them you can built a bracket for about $20 with off the shelf home depot stuff and a drill and an hour of time. Shouldn't be very hard to do. Just a piece of aluminum stock, a few u-bolts, and a few bolts/pins.

You wouldn't need to drill your rack. Get some 1 1/2" or 2" steel bar stock and cut it to the length you need for the Maxtrax pins. If you have your measurements when you go to buy the steel they would probably make the cuts for you for a small fee.

Use 2 for each end of the track. Drill for the pins and either sandwich the rack bars between them using the pins or U-bolts to cinch them up for a vertical mount or sandwich the rack floor between them for a laid down setup. You could even coat the bars in something like Plastidip before you mount them to protect your rack's finish. This is basically how those Aussie mounts work, they are just prettier.
 
I picked up the Maxtrax mounting pins and they didn't work well at all with the Gobi Rack. It was impossible to get a wrench underneath the rack to get the hardware on. I was frustrated and out $50.

A quick trip to Autozone and $2.99 later, I had some rubber tie down straps that were the pefect size for two Maxtrax on the rack:

I've already driven off road and on road (at 80MPH) with them mounted like that. No noises or other issues.

I plan to add a small cable lock to keep them from wandering off. ;)
 
Mount on Gobi

So i have an old Gobi rack where the bars can't move, so the only place to mount them requires them to be on top of the bars. I wasn't happy with that. Some mounting pins and a couple pieces of steel later. The bar mounts came from the previous owner. I think they may be custom. Haven't found anything like them elsewhere. They were used for a low profile tent mount.

I think those are mounting tabs for light bars. Typically sold as mounting clamps for round bars or something like that.
 
Not Maxtrax, but traction boards nonetheless. For occasional times I might need them throw them in back in Toyota net. If they get real nasty, I can strap them to rack for trip home.
