The wife, dogs and me went on an adventure this weekend! Good times, got into some super remote camping sites in the Sitgreaves National Forest and splattered some mud on the 4Runner while we were at it! Here are a few photos.

Not only do we have lakes...we have AMAZING lakes, that you can play in year round!

Within 2 hours of the Phoenix Metro area there are 8 lakes, several of which are HUGE!

The lake I went to is a tiny little high mountain lake, actually closed in the winter unless you want to get their via snowmobile.

Arizona isn't all desert and sand. Even though it's 106 degrees right now at 6 pm. Yikes.

Just got back from another camping trip. Same area as before, a little less off road fun as last time. But we were with a buddy who has a very nice Chevy Avalanche that doesn't do offroad, not to mention he was pulling a trailer. However, we still managed to get the 4Runner pretty muddy and had a great time! I also got to break in the new roof rack! Enjoy.

perfect life

Hi there I don't post much at all, but I have to on this one. Great pics, it is cool to see pics of peoples activities.. And by the way how is the 4runner for camping? I have a 02 tacoma dbl cab, and a 02 4runner. And so far we have only been camping in the tacoma because we have been hauling out our own firewood. Haven't been in the 4runner yet, kinda of leary about the room. What dis your opinion.

The 4Runner is defintely tight with 2 people in the back! We camp with a tent, and our two dogs get the back of the 4Runner to themselves. I added the cargo rack, and I haul two rubbermaid totes full of small camping gear, our camping chairs, and the tent up there. That leaves room for the larger camping items, and the dogs on the way up.

I have slept in the back of it alone at mountain bike races and it is totally comfy! With two people (I am 6' tall) my feet touch the back hatch, and my head is millimeters from the seats. It's tight. I have heard if you take out the bottom part of the seat and then fold the backs down you can get another 6" of space...I haven't tried that yet.

I got my new rock sliders completed. I had a local Toyota enthusiast build them for me! The price was unreal, $200 installed and painted!

I took a few photos off the internet for ideas, and told him what I was after, it took him a week to complete the build, and then another 3 hours of painting and install at his place. Terrific craftsmanship, they look better than most of the big name brands that I have seen around.

Hopefully there will be photos of them in action before to long, but here they are in the driveway.

Nice Addition

Great new addition.

Nice Work. Makes me want to buy the "Lincoln" welder... ha ha.

I am in the process of repainting my safari rack. I bought it used ($40). It needs some refinishing.

Do you have the V8? Do you change your own oil? Do you have any ideas about the skid plate completely blocking access to the oil filter?

I am in the process of becoming a seized bolt remover. The previous vehicle had a similar setup with a hinged panel. I was also considering what some other folks did with "externally mounted" oil filters from AMSOIL.

Your Thoughts?

I have the V6 model, and I don't change my own oil. I do however watch the oil change place do it! I have seen them remove the skids to get to it, and one guy accessed it through the wheel well. It looked like a pain though....it seems to me the skids need to come off. However, I have never had trouble getting the skids off when I have been working on it.

I got some more photos today! This was probably my maiden voyage as far as actual off road trails goes. We did the trail up to Sunflower Mine, just between Phoenix and Payson Arizona.

It is not a very technical section, but there are a few rock gardens, some off camber stuff, and then one BIG rut that goes through a rock garden...I tried to make it up but I was being a little shy so didn't carry enough speed. My stock open diffs just weren't going to do it unless I hit it with more speed.
