May have found my 4Runner, with ROOF RACK option?

While looking for a 2011 Silver TE with KDSS and Navigation my dealer finds me a 2010 with both options. I''m okay with a 2010 so long as its not the "soft demo" that the manager has been driving for the past year.. USAA is discounting $1800 off invoice now.

Anyways, here are the options installed. I have no problems with them and will be paying invoice pricing, however, what the heck is Roof Rack for $795? Anyone see this "option" on a dealers lot before? I know there are Cross bars that can be bought but not for anywhere near $800.

I just got this email from my dealer tonight so I haven't had a chance to ask him about it. Just trying to see if you guys have seen this pricey option :thanks:

There are many roofrack options

My 2010 did not come with cross bars, but does have the side rails, which in my view are the most important. I carry canoes quite a bit and rely on thule rack mounts. These are available for 2010 4runners. You could get the thule mounts and racks for about $350 of so. I find them very versatile. Of course, a lot depends on what you want to use your racks for. One drawback, is that the factory racks are only rated for 120 lbs. This is not that much given that two royalex canoes can easily weigh in at 70 lbs apiece. So, if you have the side rails on the TE I would not worry about crossracks. If they come with the vehicle as part of the package, well, you have them. My 2 cents. JerryG
 
There was one similar post on ExpeditionPortal that said the dealer tried to throw this in. The customer refused to pay because they were talking about the TE specific rack....the one that comes standard...

FWIW, my dealer located this vehicle on another dealer's lot. So, I am hoping he is just the "messenger" in this case. But I'm going to refuse to pay if it is indeed only equipped with the factory piece.

I don't mind paying for the crossbars if they are there, but $800...not a chance.
 
My Trail came with them and the mats and cargo net at no extra charge. I passed on the wheel locks, exhaust tip. Thought all Trails came with roof rack and cross bars and the little roof rack hook thingy's?
 
If that "door protection film" is what I think it is, it is standard. As in free.

And the roof rack is included as well as the cross bars, as others have said. Sounds like a shady dealer.

I sent out an email to my guy to get some clarification. Told him the TE comes with "black utility roof rack with rail system" per Toyota's website and his own standard features list. Plus the pic that came with the vehicle report had nothing but the standard roof rack.

I don't see the paint protection film being standard on Toyota's website. It's listed as a dealer option on most build sites. It's only $100, wouldn't stop me from buying this vehicle.

That post you saw over at the Portal was probably mine . Two dealers in my area each had an identical TE . One dealer did have that $795.00 roof rack " option " . I even showed them in the factory brochure that it was included in the TE package and not an option . The sales manager still said;" Oh no, it's an option ."
The other dealer with the exact same TE just shook their heads when I told them about the roof rack " option ".
2 hours later I was driving home with my new black TE with roof rack .
Also a week later the other dealer called my house and said the TE was still available. I told them that because of their lies about the roof rack I bought elsewhere and would never step foot on their lot again. I also said that with all the info on the internet just a click away they should think twice about BS ing people .
So to sum it up for you the roof rack is standard, just like the steering wheel , not an option .

I don't want to high jack the thread, but I have a related question. Are you certain the 120 pound limit is based on the crossracks versus the entire roof rack system (side rails and crossracks)? I don't have information to the contrary, but I was working under the assumption the weight limit was based on the entire roof rack system. If you are correct, that's great as I like to carry two large sea kayaks using a Yakima rack system. If the side rails have a different rating than the crossrails do you have any information on the weight limits for the side rails?

EDIT: I located information on the crossrail stating the maximum weight limit is 132#. The same information is posted on both the front and rear crossracks. Still not certain if this applies to the entire rack system or the crossracks.

Call their bluff. Just tell them to take all that crap off cuz you don't want it.
My dealer has a std pkg that includes thin door edge tape, pinstripes, nitro in the tires. They add $3-4k on top of the MSRP for this so you think you got a good deal when you pay list.
 
I just bought a yakima 16s skybox cargo carrier and it weighs 47 lbs! With two little girls and a 100lb lab I have no room for luggage and stroller. How much weight can I put on factory roof rack and crossbars. Is it a big deal if I go over the 120lb limit?
 
Just FYI on roof racks and crossbars. I got a quote from the dealer on TE roof rack and cross bars and parts alone were over $1300.

On that note, I have a set of TE rails and crossbars for $400 if anyone is looking.
 
I just found out that the factory crossbars allow you to put 132 lbs on the rack. Has anyone ever put more weight on?
