I am currently looking at buying a real old 4 runner, a 91. It's an automatic with 355 000km on it.
I am just wondering what are some things to look for in deciding whether to purchase the 4 runner?
It's relatively cheap, and I only need it as a beater for winters (but if it's in good enough shape then I'd like to keep it that way)
Any mechanical or structural issues I should keep an eye for? Owner claims gaskets were redone including head gasket and the steering link was redone on recall. However, they say they can't get it running right and suggested a tune up for it. Seems a bit simple to do a tune up after doing head gaskets...

Now, I have a 2003 Ford Focus, 5 speed. Looking to do some show and go with it in the future but want to make sure I can keep it off the road during winter before I start pouring too much money in it! (not that I haven't already, engine blew at 113 000km, so dropped a 40 000km engine in it instead amongst tons of other repairs)
I once upon a time had a 1989 YJ wrangler. I got as far as gutting the interior and removing the tub before I discovered that the frame had rotted beyond repair - at least, I didn't want to sleeve it; I'd never feel safe driving it. I had let it sit for too long.
The original plans were D44s and a 360 fuel injected v8 swap. I never got as far as what transmission I wanted to get but I had been thinking of a 5 speed new process. I wanted 6 inches of lift on 35s. I'd love to one day get back into another Jeep but I'll save up and do it proper this time; buy one that is rust free.
As for how much I know about cars... I only know what I've read and learnt off the internet. Haven't had much chance with enough hands on yet - that's what the Jeep was supposed to be for.
WEll anyway, the body of this 4runner looks pretty nice but I'm afraid of what is hidden... so any tips would be greatly appreciated!
