This is true , you notice the landcruiser and all the other parking lot off road vehicles like Lexus have LED lighting also.

I don't think you realize the land cruiser is NOT built for a parking lot. It is Toyota's off-road flagship, has been since 1951. LEDs are used on it because they provide the same or better output (thereby improving safety for the driver and visibility to other drivers / pedestrians) with less current draw on the electrical system. This allows the interior to have other creature comforts and safety features not offered on the 4Runner while still only utilizing one battery and one alternator from the factory.

I did the interior LED swap due to the lower current draw, not necessarily brightness, as I installed warm white LEDs instead of the bluer ones. The doors got red LEDs because those are the only ones I can't turn off and if I'm out with my dad doing astronomy stuff, white lights are a no-no. Amateur astronomers will kill someone over white lights!

I'd be interested in what interior lights you chose. I wouldn't mind a neutral 5k interior, just not super bright and not blue (6-7k) and not extra warm (3-4k). I am leaning toward red door marker lights too.

I truck camp all the time in the desert and set up camp in the dark with flashlight at lowest setting when I need to see details. I come from a backpacking background so I pack light and efficient so set up is quick and I am used to doing it in the near dark.

Most people cover their rigs with LED light bars for the same reason they put mud terrain tires on..... for looks. They will never actually need them in the mall parking lot.

I'll put as many lights as I can on my 4r mainly so that others can see me. Charlotte drivers are horribly bad when it comes to drifting in their lane and not seeing shit. The one thing I miss from my pickup was the led bar I had under the tailgate. Bright as hell.

Plus, LED bars on the front work well when others run their highbeams and don't care to flash them off. Sends a nice "fck you" message to the other driver.

I'm building mine for the Colorado mountain roads where if you've ever driven on at 2 am with snow coming down is pitch black and the lights definitely come in handy. Also note it's my money and if I want LEDs coveting the entirety of the vehicle I shall. Have a blessed weekend

If snow is falling you need low mounted lights with a sharp cutoff otherwise all you will see is snow. And if it's heavy snow, you don't need much light because visibility won't be very far. It's also helpful to have hot lights rather than LED so they can melt of any ice build-up.

I had a bad experience driving on I70 in a snowstorm last year. It was around 11pm (and I had been driving for almost 8 hours at this point, mostly in better conditions), snowing heavily, and the road was completely obscured by snow. I could barely tell where the road ended, so I just followed the rumble strip. I was getting so much glare from my lights that all I could see was snow. I ran the defroster on full blast max temp to try to keep the windshield clear, and it must have been 90 degrees inside. Eventually I had to stop because the windshield was freezing up and I couldn't see. I knocked a 3/8" thick sheet of ice off most of the front end, including the headlights and fog lights. They normally burn through ice (projector lights are really good at it), but this was too much.

I wanted to turn off the headlights and use only the fog lights, but that mode is not allowed. I think it's a simple mod to enable anytime fog lights. It also would have helped to have fog lights with a sharper cutoff since the later 4th gens just have reflector fog lights that are not great.

After I stopped the snow started clearing up, and I could see better, but I decided to spend the night rather than risk possibly worse conditions going over Vail Pass.

I'm jealous of 5th gens with the heated wiper parking area.

They were flaming the guy for wanting LED's on an off road vehicle. I was trying to be sarcastic in the fact that the Toyota flagship off road vehicle has LED's therefore they are NOT a mall cruiser item. So thank you for proving my point to others and the op

Canadian here, at night during a blizzard, I shut headlight off so I can see where the heck I am going because the reflection off the light on the snow is disorienting.

Up on the northern Maine roads the extra lighting would definitely come in handy for seeing critters on the side of the road about to make a dash out in front of you. Also would be good for the dirt roads and logging roads so the logging trucks see you coming from as far away as possible. I plan on getting at least some form of additional lighting.

I use mine all the time. We don't get much daylight in the winter up here in the great white north, and I live in a rural area where I can actually use my auxiliary lighting most of the time. Tons of deer and moose around here too, and the sooner you can spot them and slow down, the better. For me, auxiliary lighting is more of a safety thing than anything.

I live smack dab in the deer strike capital of the world. In my state odds are 1:39 you will hit a deer. You know what's scary? Almost half of these strikes occur before it gets dark! I have hit a deer two times and been a passenger one other time. All three times we didn't see the deer until a split second before we hit it. I could have had the SUN mounted in my grille and it wouldn't have helped. Now if someone on here would mount a FLIR on their truck then I would say that is very useful. A buddy of mine has one in his Volvo and it's scary how many deer are lurking in the woods right beside the road. I'm surprised the odds are only 1:39 around here.
Moose are different. They are pretty slow and lights could help. Deer? Not a light in the world will help if the deer decides to bolt from the woods right as you are going by.
