I think a weekend camping trip is the way to go! Too bad I sold the camper...
I have tents though- pretty sure I have the 2nd or 3rd week in October off too. Anyone ever been to Raystown Lake? I've been in October and had the entire place to myself- literally only one person there! Beautiful too...

i found more info on assateague if anyone is interested.. like i said since you need a yearly permit.. its best if that's for early next yr though so you get more use out of the permit.

Another option for campin' and drinkin' is the cove campground.

Plus we can do some shootin' too. Not sure about how much of their trail network's for wheelin' (well, on 4x4 days they're open, maybe we can convince them we'll be an event!), but there are lots of roads around there that were hit on MudFling last year, plus a bunch more regular forestry roads that are like WV county "highways".
Camping there is somewhat limited by the fact that on one side you have big RV people with their generators, and the other side you have walk-in tent sites. Also I seem to recall some sort of restrictions on alcohol in the park as well - perhaps not the campsites though.
That would be pretty nice. It can get "cool" there for some people there though. We had freezing rain up near Parker Dam Park, PA, in the second week of October last year. And yeah, we camped PA, NY, Ontario, and Montreal in a tent that time of year. It was awesome. Sometimes.

The cove is supposed to be great from everything I've heard. I think the regional Landcruiser group does events there.

I like this place too! Can't tell about alcohol from their website- maybe I'll give them a call.
EDIT- Just got off the phone. Alcohol is fine- no problems. Offroading is strictly limited to their scheduled events due to "insurance limitations".
Looks like a great place- whaddayou guys think? Sometime in October it's looking like?
