resurecting an old thread...
I had some nice custom pinstripes down the right side of my truck courtesy of Gusto Trail at Hollister. So I picked up a tube of Scratchx at Kragens yesterday (along with some foam applicator pads and 100% cotton diapers) and gave it a shot this morning while the marine layer was still up. I tried it on the mirror first, and it worked pretty well, so I tried it on the scratches on both doors. Three applications, followed be an application of Gold Glass wax.
It works! In fact, it works better than advertised. On the Meguiars site, they say that if you can catch a fingernail in the scratch, then it's too deep and scratchx won't work. Well, most of my scratches caught a fingernail, and after the multiple applications of scratchx, I can't find the scratches anymore. Amazing stuff. Highly recommended.

Hey, I don't know if anyone here can help me but.. I have an 03' 4runner with the plastic side moldings. And those things scratch so easily. Is there any product out there that can get rid of em? Also.. this has nothing to do with detailing exactly but... someone [i was driving] tossed a ciggareete in the back seat of my truck and it burnt a hole the size of a quarter in my rear right passenger side seat.

Leather or fabric? Either way they should be able to repair it. I would try getting a quote to fix it.
As for the scratches...can you feel them with your finger nail or are they on the surface?
I have fabric interior. I went to the toyo dealer and they said they would have to replace the whole rear seat or i should go to an upholstery place and have it patched up.. i know patching it up will cost less $$ but i'm worried about it looking different/different color from the rest of the seat.. As for the scratches, some of them are surface and some you can actually feel the grooves of the scratches. 
Also, has anyone noticed how easily the paint chips?!? I've found about 4 or 5 chips within the first month i purchased the truck *sighs*...

do you use a foam pad or a terry pad to apply the scratch x? do you let it dry after you work it in and then take it off? it doesn't work for me...i'm a noob with this detailing stuff. sorry!

I use a terry pad so it has a better bite. If that doesn't get the scratches try Meguiars #9. You can find it at O'Rileys & Pepboys. I had some small scratches on my Tundra that came out with a little rubbing.

thanks thundercloud......i don't have a problem with scratches, but swirl marks drive me crazy. sadly....my truck has lots.

If the ScratchX doesn't work, you can try either of these:
Griot's Fine Hand Polish (online)
or
3M Swirl Mark Remover (Pep Boys)
I tried ScratchX to try and get some pointy things out of the paint that the paint cleaning clay wouldn't remove. The ScratchX took some of it out, and made a decent shine, but it took a lot of elbow grease.

Maybe you should look at why you have so many. Maybe the way you are washing your truck is causing this. If so, using any scratch remover is really only as good as your next (damaging) wash.
For instance, many show car detailers avoid chamois because they easily create swirls.

i use micro fiber sponges and micro fiber towels on my truck now. those swirls came from when i was naive about car detailing and used regular towels to dry my car, so now i'm trying to get rid of them so i can correct my mistake.

I would try the scratchx first. It is best to try the least abrasice first. If that doesn't do the job, the go with Meguiars #9. :clap:
