Memory module under seat

Anyone find the memory module under the drivers seat? I hear its there and basically memorizes are vehicle functions at or just prior to an accident. Big brother thing looking over you yunno. Supposedly Toyota makes no bones about this thing in all its car's.

Theres an ongoing privacy issue with it. But if your in an accident law enforcement can remove it. Unless of course its not there. No tampering laws on it just now.

But it is an integrated component. But nonetheless theres got to be a workaround on it to disable it.

mine doesn't have any modules under the seats, just the number elec connectors for heat and power.

easy fix if you find it, just unplug it.

i think it is an urban legend. it is probably just normal ECU log

No urban legend. There on cars and they belong to the owners. If in a wreck and obtained by Law Enforcement or insurance companies they can be used against you if extracated from the vehicle.

Butttt, if its missing you have no responsibility for is loss. OTOH, it can be helpful in proving your innocent as well. But overall, they do more harm than good which is the basis for arguing for its removal.

And yes, they are on most cars these days. And cannot be easily "unplugged" without killing your ability to start your car. More likely a wire (input signal?) would need to be clipped to keep data from being burned into the module. Just a hunch.

I think the data logging featues are built into the various onboard ECUs. There isn't one under the passenger seat (for sure) and I don't recall seeing any such thing under the driver's seat either. In any case, I don't think there's going to be any easy way to defeat this kind of thing unless Toyota goes out of it's way to make it so.
