Messing with the '14 EnTune audio system, new splash screen, etc.

Do you guys know if the screen can be set to go into "sleep" mode? On my Subaru, my HU went to "sleep" after about 3-5 mins of no active use (even if music was on in the background), and displayed a static splash screen. It was nice at night not to have a screen constantly on.

goto APPS, SETUP, then click on the bottom of the screen that says SCREEN OFF

What do they mean by customer supplied video out cable?

Where does this cable plug in to? Is it the standard red/yellow/white non digital AV cable?

good question...anyone get video to work yet? What cables did you use?

If the head unit is set up for video, but only in park and e-brake on, then to me it sounds like we're one bypass away from anytime video. Looks like I found one of my first projects whenever I pick this damn truck up.

the new nav systems make bypassing a lot harder than it use to be.

Toyota made it more difficult to bypass, which includes turning off the GPS tracking when you input destinations. That is why you aren't able to watch a movie while still using the GPS.

When it is in bypass mode, you are able to use all of the functions of the NAV and DVD, although GPS tracking is turned off. That is the reason for the external control buttons, so you are able to switch back and forth between bypassing and normal operation

google "nav bypass" and you can see $$$ kits to install to do this.

the one kit I have heard is the best is "prestigious society" kits but I have heard of beat sonic but not as much as PS.

Clicked on a couple, looks like $125-225 range which isn't ridiculous but yeah a little pricey. Are there double din kits for the 5th gen? At that price range for the bypass it's worth considering aftermarket. But I don't actually own a 5th gen yet so I have no idea what I'd be gaining/losing just yet by going that route.

I've seen some 7" screens put into a 2014 spot with a nice replacement surround, but I have also seen some hack job installs where the trim piece if just sitting there on top of the original trim.

this is the cable i bought and it works the main thing your looking for is a 3.5mm VIDEO cable you also have to change some settings but i got it to work today

what you see on the head unit is all that you can use. you cant add any apps to entune.

hence in another thread, I could care less about entune overall. about the only thing decent in entune is Pandora (me) or iheartradio for those that care for them.

facebook, meh (I can barely check it on my phone once a week)
weather, just above meh
gas prices, I watch those as I drive
bing (maybe I might use it if I need to find something, but then again I have a co-pilot on trips with a cellphone data plan to look that up)

I use the Bluetooth streaming/cellphone stuff more than anything else since there is way more on the android system than entune.

navigation, pfft, I have a new garmin 7" that blows that out of the water by decades. but in hindsight I should have went with the 6" or maybe upgraded to another 5". I thought getting the 7" would help in the eyesight and it does, but the extra weight does make it wobble more on the friction mount. I should try the suction mount to see if it doesn't wobble as much.

I found a couple others I liked and resized them to a 16x9 format. They still have a small black bar on the side, but look good.

well on the 14 entune version, it can read out your texts and you can select & send one of the 15 canned responses back.

and you can edit 14 of the responses (2-15) and modify them to suit your needs, just cant do it while moving and they are buried in 3-4 sub menu's down.

I use it a lot when the warden/friends text while I am driving and the sig block on the sent text say "Sent From 4Runner" in addition to the canned response.


also there is a thread already with startup/display off images, just do search

Agree on all points, but I'm not launching the space shuttle. All of my calls and messages can wait until I get where I'm going.

I took one of the original posted images and turned the brightness way down then set it as the screen off image. Turned out really well and would be cool at night.

Thanks that helped greatly. I have a question though. I was successful in uploading pics to Startup Image but unsuccessful in uploading pics to Screen Off Image. I tried renaming the folder to ScreenOffImage and it didn't work. Did you face this problem?

I got the start up picture no problem. I've done 10000s of attempts to get a screen off to no avail
