Metal on metal screech/squeal in reverse

Hey all, new to the forum here but have visited many times to search and learn. Lately when reversing out of parking spots and such my runner makes a metal on metal squeal or screech. I don't have to be on the brakes for it to make that noise and it is far more harsh sounding than squeeky brakes. Any idea what this could be? Whether my car is warmed up or not doesn't seem to make any difference.

Could still be stuck caliper piston due to corrosion. Kinda common on 4th gens.
OR is it when steering is turned to the limits? Some people have experienced a grinding noise during hard limit steering. A simple dab of lube on hard limits quiets the noise.

It's when I go straight back. Wheels being turned it not makes no difference. Why would it be only in reverse though?

Check underneath the vehicle, looking at the heat shields that sit over the exhaust system. They are known to come loose from the body mounts and drop onto the exhaust system. It is possible that part of one is hitting against the driveshaft and making that noise when the shaft rotates in the opposite direction when in reverse. Also check the debris shields behind each of the 4 disk brake rotors. They tend to rust through, and one may be hitting against a rotor.

That means it's in a good range. My guess is on something hitting the driveshaft. OR you're grinding teeth on the reverse gear.

If it was something hitting the driveshaft why only in reverse? Also it doesn't do it every time. Maybe 70% of the time. It's going to the shop Friday hopefully it doesn't cost too much as I want to get 255 km2s soon.

I would guess you have worn brakes, and the squealer is hitting.

Perhaps:
1. What Nevada said.
2. The water/debris sheild behind the rotor was dented in a bit and is rubbing slightly.
3. The parking break linings are loose or rubbing inside the rotor body.

I have eliminated a rubbing heat shield being the culprit. Could it be the driveshaft u joint? Dust shields look undented, I'm leaning towards the parking brake linings. I have to push the pedal for them almost all they way to engage them

Mines is squeaking loud enough for people to look.

The sounds is coming from the passenger rear tires as far as i can tell.

Did anyone ever find a conclusion!

This is embarrassing!

How about the parking brake shoes? Might be worn and getting caught at the right angle in reverse.
