Metaltech coil defective powder coating.

Anyone had this issue literally days after install?

Only 1 coil did it. The other if I recall correctly is totally fine.

Did you call Metal Tech? What did they say?

Waiting to see what they will do. Coatings aren’t covered. Steel integrity is. But this is not normal even if the coating isn’t covered.

I had a closer look at passenger one. It’s the same.

Man that sucks. I didnt realize that those airbags mount at the top like that. Always thought they went on the bottom

Both sets of mine have been perfect and I'm not easy on my rig on pavement or dirt. Sold my medium coils and the worst was just some rock chips.

Typically powder coating isnt covered but always figured that was due to chips that could happen during shipping. Seeing it fall off is obvious abnormal and wasn't done correctly.

They should take care of you then go have persuasive chat with their powdercoater and a boot

Update to this thread. Metaltech 4x4 would not do anything about the powder coat having come off in such short time. But now 1 coil looks like this!!!

First time I've ever seen a coil break....

I would say theory-wise an airbag is a terrible idea on a dual rate spring such as Metaltech's, especially if you have it aired up and are offroading.

I only run air in the bags for extra weight. And mostly for the highway driving. Then I don’t sag and lights don’t point up in the air. You can see they have sucked in from the cold temps.

When running the bags on the dual rate coil they have to be placed below the tight wraps. I’ve wheeled with air in them and they work but I can see it isn’t ideal for the bags to go up and down that readily without the airline getting bound up. But it has worked.

I originally installed the airbags because I was always bouncing off the bump stops. That was using metaltechs original dual rate HD coil. Adding a little pressure to the bags pushing out against the coil help keep me off the bumpstops.

Then I installed metaltech 4x4 dual rate HD Gen 2 coil and found they gave better support and don’t need the bags to wheel. Hit the bumpstops a little less. But now I snapped a coil.

looks like they are gonna replace your coil now. let us know if they replace it. I was gonna say that they might of used a compressor and chipped the first pic. but, after the failure of the whole coil and break it looks like a bad pc job or just bad metal to begin with.

my toytec coilovers rusted & broke also, after 10 years tho.
