MetalTech vs OPOR Slider

Tomorrow I plan to order my sliders and my last minute procrastination is getting the better of me. Curious what you guys think about the two sliders I listed.

My thoughts - I like the OPOR with the dimple dye since I have a little one and a little wife that will be using the sliders as steps but the MT sliders have been around for years and are battle tested. I had them on my FJ And never had an issue. The c-channel frame is a nice feature and they look good.

I've seen a few reports of the sliders bending following a hard hit but in my mind that is saving your truck from damage and what the sliders are designed for. That being said I am unclear as to whether those incidents were with the MT sliders or the OPOR or both.

What say you?

FWIW, MT Trail Edition sliders are $520 until Feb 28th and they come powder coated. I have them and love them. The mounting is going to be the exact same for the MT and the OPOR.
 
I saw OPOR on other members' trucks in Oregon along with another guy who had MetalTech, so I got a side by side comparison. Though I don't have specific measurements it's pretty clear the MT sliders stick out more than the OPOR providing a better step IMO despite not having dimple die. The gap between the "gull wing" and the tubing is not that significant to be too concerned with not having the plating (again IMO but I also don't have kids). I added strips of 3M safety walk which is a stick on non-skid material for added grip since they do get a little slippery in the Seattle rain, which could help eliminate the need for the dimple die. Both take about a whole 45 minutes to install both sides, super easy especially if you have an extra set of hands. Some install in progress pics can be found in @Ducmonta 's build thread. I think I have some closer shots somewhere that I can try to post up tomorrow sometime. Duc also has the OPORs on his.

Ha you posted while I was typing my response. OP, this guy is the truck I saw and the reason I went with MT sliders. They're $520 for the trail only.

Lol, I was wondering if you were referring to mine. Yea, looks like TE only. Not sure what OP's rig is, but he could cut the trim if he wants to go that route.

Ha yeah it was TE only because when I went to go pick mine up (they're way out of the way like you said BTW) they had like 8-10 sets of trail ones and only one set of Limited/SR5s (the sale started right before I bought mine and couldn't get them on the sale becase of this). They said they make them in batches of 10, so they were trying to thin their trail inventory.

Yea, they are definitely off of the beaten path.

Makes sense they have a special deal on them, good for guys with TE's.
 
I went opor due to having a decent step area for the kid, happy so far.

I went with the OPOR sliders from Metal Tech. I liked how they were slightly more compact. I opted for the dimple die in only the bump out and partially up front but not the whole length of the slider. I've taken some good hits on them and they are still fine.
 
Thanks for your replies folks. The sale is why I said today would be the last day for decision making. These things don't go on sale too often and I'd hate to miss it if I don't chose the OPOR version. Btw, I run a 13 TE and am also in the Seattle area.

Do these metal Tech sliders work for 2014 TE?

I see in their specials they have 2014 TE sliders as a featured products but can't find it anywhere. Are they different than the 2010+??

I would be willing to bet they are the same as the '10-'13 TE's. Better order today or tomorrow if you want 20% off.

Thanks, I would think so too but wanted to make sure! I'll definitely be ordering for that 20%. Been debating on some sliders and these seem to be great, and for a great price.

I'll call them to make sure they work for 2014

I take those kind of posts with a grain of salt. The guys with issues provided so few details and I was not there to see what actually happened. I too had the MT sliders on my FJ and wheeled it hard. Never had any issues with the sliders. As I stated in my original post, sliders are designed to take damage in order to protect your truck from much more expensive damage. If you have any first hand info you'd like to share I'd love to hear it.
 
I ordered MT sliders late Monday night and they shipped out Tuesday. I've always known MT to produce a superior product and have great customer service. Many Land Cruiser guys swear by them on ih8mud.

I don't, though that is not the first post I have seen like that.
