Method Race Wheel Corrosion

My wheels are less than a year old and are already corroding? Anyone else with Method's have the same issue?

Boooo, man that sux, i would be upset. Several on here have those wheels, i am sure they will chime in. [MENTION=165]momo.75[/MENTION], [MENTION=87687]LTDSC[/MENTION]
 
That sucks man,my wife and i had that happen on her GTI after a year.Most manufacturers only warranty for a year unless you go for some big buck wheels.The wife wants to put wheels on her Mini but is afraid to pull the trigger because of that. Anyway bummer, sorry to hear it.
 
mine dont have corrosion like that but i do know their clearing process completely sucks on the machined finish. Mine had minor pits here and there but barely noticeable unless you're looking.
 
I had just ordered some new wheel wax (Auto Finesse Mint Rims Wheel Wax) for mine. I thought it would be here by the weekend but looks like it won't happen.....boooo!

Good news...Tire Rack is going to take them back. So, I can buy another set of Method's or something else. What to do? :ohwell:
 
I've seen that on quite a few brands with "Machined" finishes. Was a bit of a similar deal with older GM wheels that had machined looks to them as well. Typically thin or inferior clear coat.
 
Method NV Corrosion

OK, so I've got the Method finish blues as well. Called TireRack and they will offer a 50% credit due to the rim being out of the 1 year warranty. Which is a good deal, if true...

However I looked on the Method website and their warranty info indicates there is a 2 year warranty on "painted" wheels vs a 1 year warranty on Chrome rims.

So, I'm thinking the NV is "painted" as its a machine finish with clear coat. Any thoughts on this ???

Todd, curious how old yours were and did you get a 50% credit or did they hit 100% for you?

Worst case scenario: pull them off the vehicle, sand blast to nice sheen, followed by a 2 part 2k Urethane clear coat. Done.
 
Ya, I hear ya on the refinishing. I'm thinking if my only option is to take a 50% hit in a new set, then refinishing and lots of clear is perhaps a better bet long term vs another set that may only last me a year or so.

Momo, I did and sent some pics too. They're looking into the issue, well see what they can do under their warranty.
 
Update: Method says the warranty is 2 years and TireRack confirmed with them, so new rims are on the way :)

Now I have to decide whether I run those new NVs as is, or perhaps have a local wheel shop add some additional clear coat or poly? Living in the NE it's not pretty with all the sand salt and chemicals during the winter. The corrosion mainly seems to be starting where there is a dark brown/rough spot where perhaps the clear coat took a hit from sand/small stone during the winter.

I'm guessing any additional coating would void the warranty on the replacements, but they may last a lot longer if I do this.

Any thoughts on this guys?

Grey dog - since you are in the northeast I would suggest a painted model versus the machined/clear coated versions.
 
I would look for a wheel shop and have them fix it. It is easily corrected, but your vehicle will be down for a few days.
