Method Wheels... Good or bad choice for 4Runner?

Hey guys,

Two part question here...

So I've noticed that there isn't a whole lot of people that are running method wheels? Is there a particular reason behind this?

And while Im at it, for anyone with experience: I have a 2016 SR5 and Im planning on running he Toytec boss kit, 285/70R17 BFG K02 or Duratrac. Will I have to do a body mount chop with a 17x8.5 wheel, 0 offset, and 4.75 backspacing?

Im trying to find a solid wheel that doesn't require a crazy amount of cutting.

I love the method wheel design personally.

not sure they're hubcentric wheels, that might be why.
Also they're one of the heavier options available if I'm not mistaken.
Also a lot of backspacing and wider than most wheels...
Look great though.

No rub over rocks or turning on descent at the base of steep approach angles. No chop.

Have your desired setup with Duratracs/NVs and didn't need the BC mod. Been very happy

Also love mine so far. Running 285 nittos, boss lift with total chaos uca's and just did the fender liner tuck no bmc needed.

The Method wheels are honestly one of the most common wheels I see on Tacomas, Tundras, and some other 4WDs.

I actually like the design and it was a solid choice when I was looking for wheels a while back; my biggest complaint is that the "faux beadlock" is actually part of the wheel. I wish it were more like the TRD Wheels as I wouldn't mind having a "beauty ring" I could replace when it got scuffed up too much.

They actually do make functional beadlocks that we use on our race car. Very durable. I have stories of hitting rocks at high speed in the desert that should have grenaded them, or in the past did so with lesser wheels in similar situations, and they survived better than expected.

Not saying they are the end all, be all; but good looks, value and durability make them worth considering.

Love mine so far. I feel much better running Method than my TRD Pro wheels with 1.25 Spider Traxx Spacers.

I agree, even though I own a set of NV's. the gold bolt thing started to bug me over the years so I recently found some replacement black button head bolts in the Grade 12 variety.

for those that are interested, the specs are M8 x1.25 x 10mm. if you search that in Ebay you can find them. they are a tad long but once tightened down, you cant tell. Nice change for about $30 (5 wheels worth)

I didn't say you were questioning beadlocks and their use... Simply stating their lineage and performance in real world use, as someone who has used both.

In the end, this thread is about Method wheels. Buying wheels is a personal choice. Style and performance can be unique to individual tastes. If you don't like them then vote with your dollar.

5th gen hub size 106mm, Method NV are 108mm. This quote explains it all.

You can use the standard Gorilla 12x1.50 small diameter (SD) lugs, but I highly suggest using Gorilla part #21134ETBC with these wheels. This is an extended thread "mag-style" lug which protrudes slightly into the mounting pad of the wheel (below the seat).

Why? The centerbore of the Method wheels is machined to 108mm. The FJ (and most Toyota trucks) have a hub diameter of 106mm. This 2mm difference may not seem like much, but can cause vibration issues if the wheel is not perfectly centered on the mounting surface. Hubcentric rings are typically used to bridge this gap, however the wheels won't accept rings if you use the included push through center cap.
ET lugs help to better center the wheel more precisely on the hub. An additional benefit is the lug nut will engage an extra 2-3 threads of the stud.
