I had a Bug. Back in the late 60's, Japanese compaines were not considered that great. There were a lot of bad things about the Bug that I won't miss, like lack of power, poor seats, terrible safety, but it still is one of my favorite cars.
The car was very inovative, it came up with solutions with different answers.
--It didn't have a pump to spray water on the windshield, it used air pressure from the spare tire to force water on the windshield.
--It didn't have a gas guage, when you ran out of gas, you hit the toggle switch and you had one extra gallon in order to find a gas station. (If you forgot to re-set the toggle switch you were in trouble.)
--It had no temperature gauge, if it got hot, it would slow down or just stop working.
--It had no heater core to heat the air, heck it didn't even have a radiator, it was air cooled. It would bring air up from around the engine into the cabin, (after about 20 minutes you would feel a little warmth).
--It had no oil filter, it used a screen that you cleaned with a toothbrush, (a old toothbrush).
--It had no air filter, you put 30 weight oil in the air bath, no I don't know how it worked.
--Of course it had no air conditioning, if you got a radio, it was one speaker AM only.
--It had no power brakes, you had to press hard to stop faster.
--It had no power steering, your arms would move the steering wheel.
I just thought I would throw that in, for the members in the forum too young to remember the Peoples Car, (Hitler got Porsche to design the car for the German people, but that is another story).
