Michelin LTX A/T-2 Owners...need your opinion

Hey all,

My brother is interested in the A/T-2. From what i have read, it is an excellent tire. However, i need to hear more "real-life" stories about this tire. So, please give your input on:

1. road noise compared to previous tire (please state what you had before)
2. off-road ability
3. snow ability
4. rain traction
5. Ride comfort?? It is comfy??
6. Any regrets?

Wife has 'em on her 04 Pilot, they have 30,000 miles on them and look like they'll go another 20-30,000. Wet traction is fine as is braking and dry road driving. Noise is really nothing and we'd know because Hondas ain't quiet! Snow traction doesn't "seem" as good as her Revos, but there hasn't been enough to really compare.

Not much help here as I've only had my 4R for two weeks. The guy that traded it just put on new LTX A/T2 @ 6 months before trading so the tires might as well be new. They seem just as quiet as the Dunlops that were on my 2004 SE, which is surprising given that the tread is more aggressive than that on the Dunlops. I would rate ride comfort quite good. When I picked up the truck it rode a bit harsher than I remembered the SE riding on the Dunlops. I put it down to the LTX A/T2 tires. Two days later I checked the pressure and found that the dealer had the tires pumped up to 40 PSI. I lowered then all down to 35 PSI and the ride is now just the same as I remember the SE riding on Dunlops, if not even a bit smoother.

Haven't had them off-road, unless you count dragging my trailer down the hill into the back-yard

I won't be running them in the winter as I have a set of 17" Latitude X-Ice from the old SE that I will be throwing on. Just need to find a nice set of 17" rims to put them on.

when I was shopping for new shoes I seen these and just kept on walking. For me, they were to similiar to my stock dunlops which I was trying to get away from. For me, I wanted something more aggresive and manly. Ended up buying Micky Thompson MTZ....kind of pricey though $230/ea...and that was on sale. However.....Ill never get stuck again.....crossing my fingers.

3 weeks ago I purchased five Michelin LTX A/T2 P275/65/18. I had three things in mind when I chose this tire. 1) I've had great luck with Michelin tires over the years and am a loyal customer. 2) Wanted a decent all-terrain tire with low highway noise. 3) My choices for Michelin tires were quite limited with the stock 18" wheels. I couldn't really find many off road reviews of these tires, but I took a leap of faith.

I've not had it off road yet, so I can't comment on this yet. I expect they will be fine for the light off roading my son and I do.

On road the tire rides very nice. At highway speeds I don't notice the tires being loud at all or harsher riding than the stock Michelin's that were on it. Interestingly, at very low speeds (1-3mph) with the window down, the tires sound like I'm driving in water - it's weird. I kind of expect that to fade away as the tires wear a little, but who knows.

Sorry about that. I'm running the stock size of P265/60/R18 in the LTX A/T2. That size only comes in a P rating.

The 275/65/18 noted it the previous post above comes in either a P or an LT rating.

I can't remember what my stock tires were. I've had the 17" LTX A/T2 since December. No complaints on ride comfort and noise. Traction in rain and snow/ice were excellent, compared to the stocks. We had a rare snow for one week here in the island as soon as I had the LTX installed. Talk about timing. My only gripe (or my wife's gripe) about these tires is that they tend to pick up small rocks and spit them out in the freeway to the wheel wells. Wife goes "WTF" when she hears the noise..

I just bought a set of 265-70-17- AT-2's... I have about 15 miles on them, but will be taking a 800 - 1000 mile trip this weekend..will let you know when I get back.. Heading into Nevada... will be all highway driving.. no off road.

Are they severe weather rated ??

When I priced them I could have got them for what my Revos cost me , BUT they just was not the data out there .

My friend who owns 2 tire store (big ones , and independent ) . They carry a lot of different tires but specialize in BFG AT's and he said the Michelin AT2's were superior to anything the carry and have been testing them out in snow / mud fields since they have a huge agriculture following. Even told me they were test running P rated tires on an F250 to see how they would hold up.

Are they severe weather rated ??

He is thinking about 265/75/16 for his FJ...i think it comes in Load Range E for that size. None of the LTX A/T-2 is severe weather rated (snowflake).

Took the new tires offroading last weekend in the mountains in east San Diego County. They seemed to perform well, though I'm not sure what I'd judge them against. Several times we climbed some rocky areas. In 4LO with Center Diff locked the tires seemed to grab pretty well with only minor slippage.

I'm not a hard core off-roader. These tires seemed to work great for me.

First pic shows the terrain. Second pick shows the Jeep Wrangler I was with. He is running 35's.

Cool. Yeah, it looks like i may go with A/T-2 in the future. Not sure what direction my future off-roading takes.

Installed these on my '03 Limited last fall, replacing the stock Michelin Cross Terrains.

1.) These are way noisier than the stockers, though not any noisier than BFG AT's I had on my Chevy trucks.

2.) Off road ability is fantastic.

3./4.) Snow and rain ability is very good

5.) Ride comfort is good by me, but my wife doesn't prefer the noise vs. the stockers

6.)No regrets

P265/65/17's same as the stock Cross Terrains. And yes they are noisier. As I mentioned it doesn't phase me, but others who ride in my truck comment
