Microsoft Download Manager errors

I had to reload my Xp Pro machine with Office 2003. I am getting reports/WORD in 2007. There used to be a clean Compatibility d/l to use. Now MS uses 'Download Manager' but I can't open the files. defaults to Europe Windows. ideas?

Here is my short fix:

Download Apache Open Office. It is freeware licensed by SUN before the Oracle purchase.


Seriously. Do this.

Well, hard to explain if you are not using MS Office. I found a fix around this, just hope I do not have to go to Download Manager again. Google that, a lot of people having problems with it now.
