Middle Map Light

Okay, I'm sure this is in the owner's manual somewhere, but I'll ask here anyway.

What is the purpose of the little square light between the two map lights? It just glows at night when the lights are on. Is it mood lighting?? LOL

That overachieving LED provides ambient lighting for your console/shifter area. Cover it with your hand and you will see just how much it illuminates. Uh- do that in the dark .

I sort of figured that's what it was for. It sure is freakin' annoying. lol

I like it! VW and BMW have had similar lights forever. Theirs are red though, but I don't mind the blueish.

It makes the inside nicer when driving at night, but it's not bright enough to mess with your night vision.

+1 I agree. It provides just enough soft light to illuminate while not blaring me in the face. Love it.

All I see is a brighter light out of the corner of my eye. LOL

I will say this, the actual illuminate part is nice (down by the shifter). It looks good. I guess it's my height and the seat angle and such, but I can see the light source and it bugs me.

Oh well, i'll get used to it.

There's a thread here on changing out that LED man. If it really bothers you, you could just take the light out.

Nah, I'll get used to it. Keep in mind I traded in a 14 year old Jetta that I bought new. I'm not used to all this new fangled stuff yet.

Actually, I met him yesterday for lunch. I'm 6'4 and he's at least 6'. The light doesn't really bother me either tho, I don't even notice it. As for my head, even with the moonroof clearance is pretty decent for me.
