Mike's (Redswan) 2005 4x4 sport edition

This, the '06s use H11 low beam. It's just easier to upgrade to HIDs since you have to buy H11 bulbs and connectors if you go halogen.

All (or most) HID ballasts on the other hand use 9006 connectors flipped upside down, so you buy an H11 HID kit and they're just plug & play. i.e. connector plugs into '03 9006 connector, bulb fits in '06 H11 housing.

edit - you don't *have* to buy the wiring harness, all it does is give you a second set of turn signals and make the parking light connector a little better. The '03 parking light will work in the '06 housing, it just fits a little funny. Once you turn it 90 degrees to lock it in it snugs up firm though.

Thanks fro the feedback Matt. So all I need for a halogen implication is a h11 connector and H11 bulb to make the low beams work? Sounds good then.

That's right, out of curiosity why don't you want HIDs? They're usually brighter and with the squirrel finder mod they're nearly as sharp as actual HID projectors. Also I'm pretty sure you could pick up an HID kit for the same price as the H11 connectors and bulbs.

I found these

I guess I only have a little reluctance to pick up some HIDs because I don't want to break something and have to special order a new one. I like the ability to quickly source parts especially as much as I am out in remote areas with this truck. That is my only issue. If they really are that much better then I will give them a try.

I appreciate the feedback because I honestly don't know the difference. It is not something I have messed with before.

That makes a lot of sense and it may be better for you to go that route, or pick up a cheap pair of spare bulbs on eBay to keep in case of emergency.

The output is much better IMO, once I tried HID bulbs there was no turning back for me but halogen does have advantages as well. The HIDs seem brighter on the road and also light up the sides of the road a lot more.

If you do go with HID get 4300K or 5000K, anything over that looks blue and output begins to diminish. I can't tell you much about the quality of brands, I had good luck out of the cheapest set I could find but some prefer to buy the more expensive. I have a nicer set now, but only because it was included with my retrofit purchase.

I went a head and bought the H11 HID kit for $50, which is about what a decent set of halogens and plugs would cost. Thanks for talking me into it.

Nice I figured the price would be close, that's why I made the recommendation. Hope you enjoy!

Be sure and check the squirrel finder mod when you put em in. It's a <1 minute mod that will improve the output. The guy in the writeup says he did a lot of fine tuning, but I just bent it about halfway back in the first place and it was good.

Replacing saggy 2" Icon rear springs

A quick update. I got the OME 895 springs in yesterday and installed them tonight it took about an hour to do both sides.

I think the old rear Icon 2" springs were worn out because they were sitting at `~39.5" with drivers side 1.5" spacer.

With the new springs it is at 41.75" on both sides with the 1.5 drivers side spacer.

Much better now!

im blown away you're at the same height as me and you run what you run. Makes me want to upgrade tires now.

ok i got a question about your sliders. Since you're very close to same fender heights, and you have the 1" BL. Did you put sliders on after the BL? or have them raised for be higher for the BL?

Mine are welded on and im just seeing my options.

What are you running 285/70? I'll trade you. I want to go smaller to lose some rotational weight and bring back my gear ratio to see how much faster it really is.

If you want to just check it out, I've got nitto terras on mine (265/70) and I wouldn't mind taking a trip up to the desert from the OC one day to let you swap em out and check...

+2006 Projector headlights and 6000K HIDs

So, I got the headlights project all together today. For the project I picked up a new pair of +06 headlight from headlight depot ($240) and a pair of Kensun 6000K ($50) (which the 4300K were out of stock and $25 more)

I still have to work out the cut off lines and squirrel finders a little, but I am shocked how much better this is.
