So, I got the headlights project all together today. For the project I picked up a new pair of +06 headlight from headlight depot ($240) and a pair of Kensun 6000K ($50) (which the 4300K were out of stock and $25 more)

I still have to work out the cut off lines and squirrel finders a little, but I am shocked how much better this is.

Sweet! Glad you're happy with the purchase, I was worried you might not like em after I made the recommendation. Doesn't look too bad but they definitely need to be aligned! It's pretty easy, using a phillips head. I think there's a good writeup with FSM pictures on 120.

roof rack

Mike,

Can you provide any feedback on the "modifications" you had to make to get the Land Cruiser Front Runner roof rack fit on the 4Runner? I am interested in putting a large light bar on my runner as I travel on ranches often at night for oilfield work with lots of wildlife. I prefer the "full" length roof rack look but have only stumbled across this one and the Gobi. For the money, the Front Runner appears to be much more substantial.

My number one choice would be to get the light bar mounted w/out purchasing a roof rack all together as I don't go off-roading and would seldom if ever carry anything up there....kinda dumb to purchase a $1300 roof rack just to mount a light. I will need to browse the forum more for possible mounting options but wanted to know what was involved with mounting your rack in case I go that route. I did watch your video but could use more info. Thanks!

Iwould say that of the two designs the Front runner is more versatile. If you aren't adding a roof top tent or putting heavy things on the roof then just get a light bar and call it good.

For modifying it, I covered it in the video. You match up one side of the tracks and redrill the other other 2 holes on both sides.

Not sure what other information you are looking for, but let me know if you are needing anything else.

the hi beam is the same bulb. The corner light is the same and the turn signal (1156) is the same and eliminates the lower turn signal. The only thing that is different is the H11 low beam.

Sorry for not being more clear. No drilling into the roof is involved. Here is what you do.
1. Remove the factory rack. It has 4 bolt holes already tapped.
2. Position the 2 tracks from FR and line up the rear holes. Put in some sealant around the dowels and bolt in the rear holes.
Mark the position of the needed front holes and drill through the FR track. Make sure to seal the dowels in the front be for bolting down. And bolt 5 the front down.
3. Next, assemble and slide in the 3 mounting feet on each side.
4. Install the rack to the feet and mate them together. .
5. Align the feet and rack before tightening everything down.

And that is it.

URD/Rotrex Supercharger Installation

So i did this about 4 months ago and never posted the install stuff in by build. so, this is just for reference for anyone who tried this in the future.

So long story short back in August i picked up a URD Supercharger kit used for price I couldn't refuse. It even came with a fully rebuilt C30 Rotrex unit.

it had a few quirks that I covered in my youtube video on the system

So everything went on pretty easy.

1. I installed the cooling system first. I had a little trouble fitting up the radiator for the intercooler because of the SW bumper got in the way. I wound up mounting the Bosch water pump under the passenger headlight on the body. And running the hoses and reservoir which was easy. I spliced a hose to use as a protector around the cut outs that I ran the hoses through for protection.

2. Then the oil system went on which consist of the reservoir and filter placed in line before the inlet. Then off the outlet I put hooked it up to the cooler and routed it back to the reservoir. It was having some over foaming issues at the reservoir that I remedied with a second oil filter which helped add some resistance to the return flow and some more cooling. So far 5,000 issue free miles and 2 Death valley and several other trips in there.

3. Once that was done I wired in the 7th Injector and performance control system. I went slow with the fuel pressure regulator and fuel fittings and got it right the first time. I made sure to oil up the o ring too. For the harness it was pretty to connect it all and I recommend buying th plug and play harness from URD if the kit doesn't have it. Mine used the E model if I recall correctly.

4. The intercooler was pretty easy to set up. I had to remove my spare battery to fit up the charge pipes and intake pipes. I wound up reinstalling it a few weeks ago and everything fits in there ince and tightly.

5. I plumbed the hoses for the boost gauge and BOV. The recirculating BOV that came with it wouldn't match up to the intake pipe so I put on my old TurboXS one from my Celica GT4 RC rally car. It sounds bad assed.

In the end it all came out like this...


I don't have the time to dyno it, but I can say that it is much more powerful and faster than the NA set up.

The fuel economy is maybe 1-2 MPG difference and I have Toyo MT 34's that are really heavy.

So it is a great set up and I love it.

I got my lower filler panels in for under the new headlights. I also redrilled the holes for the bumper mounting points to lift the bumper and fill in the gap a little better. I have had about an inch gap for a long time because of the body lift.

im going to try to keep the lower blinkers as well as upper in the headlight.

Sam/LTDSC, I was just thinking about this. I don't know if you drive a lot off road. Like I was alluding to with Matt/Gatorose about HIDs. Simplicity is best in my opinion. The more wiring you have to do and run the more likely you are to have electrical problems.

I like the idea of having both and it is easy enough to do, but I know Murphy's law.

So, for whatever it is worth I was just going to offer that.
